Not much to say. Just make the connections and it works!
My old NEC DVD drive/writer is recognized immediately and can be used again on my new motherboard without IDE port.
The only negative point is the price, which is higher than that of a new drive.
Absolutely no problem using it under Linux, everything works perfectly. Used with two CD drives daisy-chained on the same tray.
I used this card on an ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 motherboard to be able to use DVD drives as well as IDE hard drives.
These 2 elements are recognized without any problem.
I had bought an IDE/Sata adapter for another PC which did not allow me to use the DVD drive. I recommend using a PCI card for this purpose.
Connected objects, DVD drive, hard disks or others are detected in the bios!
This card is a bit expensive but this solution is very preferable to SATA-IDE adapters which work but in a degraded way (I also tried this solution which disrupts PC start-ups and results in slow disk accesses whereas everything is normal with this card).
I recommend this solution especially for a PC renovation. (In order to keep its basic configuration with a new motherboard and especially to still have its CD and DVD burner/player. If you want to install a SATA or SSD drive later or immediately next to it, this is recommended).
Buy to use 2 x 500GB IDE drives on a newly built computer. Recognized directly in the bios and under windows 10. Nothing to install. I'm a bit short on IDE for my tower. (Big tower too so it's normal :-) ).
I put this card on the motherboard without any problem and connected the writer and off I went. I don't think there's anything better.
I ordered this product so that I could continue to use a DVD burner that I am very happy with. And as this burner is IDE to be connected to a "modern" motherboard which does not allow to connect it, the solution is this card...
This little device is detected when the PC starts up and works perfectly well without installing any drivers.
The only complaint is the length of the IDE cable supplied, which is too short and only allows me to connect one of the two hard disks I wanted to get.
I'll take up a previous comment: bought to connect a DVDROM and a DVD burner, both in IDE. The latter are recognized directly by the BIOS when the PC starts up, before Windows is launched. There is absolutely nothing to do but connect it to the motherboard. In short, for IDE peripherals on recent CMs, it's worth it.
Bought to recover 2 old IDE disks, these are recognized directly in the BIOS/UEFI. There is absolutely nothing to do, even to install an OS on one of these disks. In short, for old disks on recent CMs, it's worth it.
I originally bought it as a precautionary measure (not to be left without a way to read an IDE HDD). The card was recognized immediately and without any particular manoeuvre on my system (CentOS 7) when I wanted to re-use an old IDE DVD burner.... The card was recognized immediately and without any particular manoeuvre on my system (CentOS 7) when I wanted to re-use an old IDE DVD burner, as opposed to a SATA-IDE adapter which only worked halfway, which is the worst case!
On a ldlc tip, the IDE/pci-express x1 controller card is installed on an Asus Z170-P, I5-6600, 8GB and ssd configuration. Two old IDE (7200 rpm) data disks are connected to the card via an 80-stranded ribbon cable, keeping the jumpers on master and slave respectively. Both disks are recognised at boot time and usable under Win10 and Fedora 23 (linux) on the dual boot machine. The measured IDE-SSD data transfer speed is 40 MB/s in both directions. The other PCI-express x1 slot left free allows for duplication. The supplied IDE ribbon cable, about 45 cm long, is a bit short; in my configuration (Corsair Obsidian) it does not allow the drives to be connected to the card. I'm very pleased with the service and the quality of the product. I'm very pleased with the product and the advice.
