The perfect monitor for work and play
Finally received despite all the shortages! The Ultra HD definition on a 27" is very pleasant to work with, whether on a Mac (Retina mode with choice of display density) or PC (HiDPI). No defects on the model I received: no dead pixels, no IPS glow or blooming or anything else. In the box is a sheet with the result of the colour calibration and a test of the homogeneity of the panel for each copy. In sRGB gamma 2.2, the Delta E is 0.52 and the brightness only varies between 97.4% and 100.1%, so it's perfect.
For me, who often switches between a Macbook Pro and a PC on the same screen, I think it's great to have a single USB-C cable that passes the Mac's power (65w), as well as the UHD image and the 4 USB ports of the screen. And when I switch to the PC, the 4 USB ports (including my keyboard and mouse receivers) switch to this one (KVM). To quibble, I would have liked to have a daisy-chain to handle a 2nd screen, but you can't have everything.
For gaming, 120 Hz with VRR is a big plus and GSYNC is well supported. I play in 120 Hz at 2560 x 1440, because my graphics card (GTX 1050 Ti) has a bit of trouble beyond that on Rocket League. For the response time, I set the SmartResponse (overdrive) to the second to last mode, as the last mode shows too much ghosting.
The design is sober with a nice, solid base and very thin edges. The finish is impeccable.
The Ambiglow is however not up to the rest. The "white" is borderline turquoise, the yellow almost orange and all the other colours are out of sync. The worst thing is that you can only choose from about fifteen colours. It is therefore impossible to adjust the hue to your liking. The modes that react to the image or sound have the same problem of hue and are not very pleasant.
The speakers are deplorable, but I didn't expect anything from them and there is no vertical pivot.
