I've never been disappointed by the pro NAS RED range from western digital, just the opposite of one of its direct competitors that I won't name, can handle 10,000 hours of operation per year without any problem;
However I have one of the 2 disks which was defective and which passed under guarantee

Bought to put in a network player! Movie and music storage. For the time being, the dd is doing the job, and everything seems to be running smoothly when playing large video files.
It's not silent, but the noise it emits is minimal, so it can be used in a living room.
Very good drive for a NAS, in occurance a Synology DS1819+.
Quiet, doesn't heat up too much. I've got 6 of them in my 8-bay enclosure and they all stay at 30°C when idle and +/- 42°C when working.
Hard disk tested on arrival using Western Digital's "WinDlg" software.
Extended SMART test: satisfactory results. The hardware has not been damaged in transit and is therefore fully operational.
LDLC customer for years, I once again placed an order following the premature death of my old WD RED drive. Fast delivery, careful protection, drive fulfilling its function perfectly (and less noisy than the non-"PLUS" model) I recommend :)
