        "INCOMPATIBLE with my NAS SYNOLOGY!

I bought this HD to replace 1 of the 4 existing ones in my RAID (same ref WD RED 3Tb) on NAS SYOLOGY which had faulty sectors.
I have always bought WD RED 3 TO SATA but surprise when I added this new drive to my NAS SYNOLOGY: it told me that it was "INCOMPATIBLE" and that it was not advisable to include this drive in the RAID!
On closer inspection, this drive is "SMR" and SYNOLOGY only accepts "CMR" drives.
=> You should therefore take the reference "WESTERN DIGITAL WD RED 3 TO SATA 6GB/S --> "PLUS" Until now the RED range was CMR and it's a shame that LDLC doesn't specify this change of technology (switch to "SMR") and doesn't direct you to the "PLUS" range.
Well... I tried to include it in my RED anyway, I hope it won't jeopardise my data over time... (I made a cron backup on my 3TB with 1 faulty mains just in case...)

        To upgrade to RAID5

Bought 2 of them, to complete a set of similar drives from 2014 (Nasware 2.0 vs Nasware 3.0).
The cache is larger (256MB). Performance wise they are about the same as the old drives (throughput and IOPS).
        In RAID 5 (4*3TB) on a DS420+ 600 mo/s read and 480 mo/s write.
Satisfied, hoping for the same reliability as the 2014 models.
3TB may not seem like much these days, but these drives are quiet, which is rarely the case with larger capacities.
If the capacity suits you for a NAS, it is a wise choice

        Quiet and fast hard drive

I bought 2 copies of this disc.
        It is very quiet.
Perfect for my 2 bay Nas in RAID 1.
The read/write noise is very low.
Perfect the intellipower feature that manages the spin speed and cache to make the data available quickly while saving power.
It's great for me as I have a green side!

Reserve disks for replacement on a NAS

Fast delivery, nothing to complain about. 2 of the 5 3TB RAID 5 disks in place on the NAS had been showing a faulty sector for some time, after 7 years of good and loyal service. The disks were replaced and as a precaution, 2 disks were provisioned... The rebuilding time for each disk is about ten hours... Note that the NAS has a daily backup on an external disk for the most critical data!
