Excellent for 4K video games with an RTX4080. Colour rendition and contrast are excellent.
This monitor had firmware problems that plagued it during its first year: unable to deliver the promised 138 Hz, washed-out colours in HDR, etc. Since version 040 was released, it's all over. Since version 040 was released on 13 July, it's all over, see the Rtings test:
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/rog-swift-oled-pg42uq
After a year's use, I'm happy with my purchase, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone: you need a deep desk (75cm or more in my opinion), the ergonomics are almost non-existent, the text clarity isn't as good as that of an LCD panel (so it's not recommended for mainly office use) and it's even slightly inferior to that of an OLED TV because of the matt coating on the monitor.
However, if you have the space and use it mainly for video and video games, you'll be in for a real treat: superb colours, infinite black, immersion, etc.
The definition is adapted to the size, with a pitch of 0.2395 mm where a 27-inch 1440p monitor has a pitch of 0.2331 mm. It's really very comfortable to have several windows on the screen. In my opinion, the coating of the panel is a strong point insofar as I mainly use the screen during the day in a bright room (velux): a glossy panel would have already driven me crazy because of the reflections.
Finally, no burn-in despite ~80 days of office use over the course of a year.
After hesitating for a long time, not only because of the price but also because I read here and there that some slabs had banding problems, I took the plunge and I do not regret it.
Receipt:
The package was received with a scratch on the box (fortunately not deep). No worries on this side, the screen is well protected.
The screen:
The screen is impeccable, no defects to report on my side. The colours are really beautiful, I rediscover my games. Thank you OLED.
The screen is natively in 120 Hz and goes up via a manual overclocking in OSD to 138 Hz.
42" :
The screen size is still impressive but you get used to it very quickly. I have a desk with a depth of 80 cm, so I wouldn't want anything less. In this configuration, the screen is pleasant to use.
I'm taking away one star because for the price, the screen should have been in 144 Hz.
N.B. :
At the beginning, I had a 1080 ti as GPU. As soon as the screen was in 120 Hz, I had flickering and it was impossible to put the screen in 138 Hz.
Problem solved by buying a new GPU.
Very good monitor, excellent colours and contrast of course :)
The 140hz overclocking works but there are some problems with the firmware (even the last one), sometimes the screen doesn't come out of standby, so you have to unplug it.
In 120hz there is no such problem.
The clarity of the text is not ideal but you get used to it, it's linked to the shape of the pixels on the oled panels.
Top picture in cinema mode in terms of colour rendering
No BFI or ELMB-Sync
HDR10 support only
HDR light peak below promise 96% not 98
No USB-C
Heats up in 4K on 4h+ sessions and does not hold 138hz or 120hz even hovers around 80hz with some games
Text clarity is not great
