4-bay NAS server (without hard drive)

Overview

High performance NAS for the personal cloud

The TS-431K is powered by a 1.7GHz Quad-Core processor and 1GB of DDR3 RAM. The TS-431K provides 4-bay storage space to securely store your sensitive data and files, while allowing you to easily share files with family and friends. Featuring a compact minimalist design and white colour, the TS-431K can easily fit into any home space and takes up very little space. The TS-431K comes with lockable disk trays, which prevent disks from being accidentally dropped or removed, resulting in data loss. The TS-431K provides full local, offsite and cloud backup and secure snapshot technology to help you create a reliable backup and disaster recovery plan. In the event of a system failure or accidental file deletion, you can quickly restore the system to its normal state.

Ideal for full backup

  • HBS (Hybrid Backup Sync) can back up and synchronise your data to other NAS, servers and cloud storage for complete backup and disaster recovery.
  • Snapshots record the entire system and data state, allowing you to protect your data and files from accidental deletion and malware attacks.
  • SupportsLXC and Docker containers to quickly deploy application services across platforms including cloud, servers and PCs.
  • The hot-swap design allows you to remove hard drives without turning off the NAS to ensure continuous operation.

quad-core processor

The TS-431K is powered by an AnnapurnaLabs Alpine AL-214 Quad-Core 1.7GHz processor to enhance system performance. With 1GB of DDR3 RAM, two Gigabit LAN ports and 4 SATA 6Gbps bays, the TS-431K delivers high performance while also ensuring data security. The TS-431K also features three USB 3.0 ports, allowing you to transfer large media files between the NAS and your devices. The USB port on the front of the NAS supports "One touch copy", which makes it convenient to backup data from your external device to the NAS or vice versa with just one click.

Multi-point File Backup, Access and Synchronization

HBS (Hybrid Backup Sync) consolidates data backup, recovery, and synchronization, allowing you to easily backup or synchronize data to another QNAP NAS, remote server, or cloud storage (e.g. Dropbox or Google Drive) to establish a reliable disaster recovery solution. Qsync turns the TS-431K into a secure and high capacity data centre for file synchronization. Any file transferred to the TS-431K will be made available to all linked devices, such as desktops, laptops and mobile devices. You can also synchronise shared folders or create team folders to enhance team collaboration.

Boost your productivity

QNAP File Station provides centralized file management that allows you to view and manage files on your TS-431K and other storage or devices (such as USB storage or mobile devices). Qfiling can help you automate file organisation, while Qsirch can speed up file searches. You can also use the Qfile mobile app to access NAS files from a mobile device.
  • Qfiling automates the organisation of files. Files are automatically stored in folders according to your settings
  • Qsirch quickly finds images, music, videos, documents, emails and other files based on keywords, colours and other filters.
  • TheQfile mobile app allows you to access NAS files from a mobile device anytime, anywhere; while also allowing you to transfer and backup files on your phone to a NAS.

Protect your data with Snapshots

Snapshots help protect your data by recording the entire NAS system status and metadata. If a file is accidentally deleted or modified, you can use the snapshots in Storage and Snapshot Manager or File Station to quickly restore the files to their previously saved states. QNAP snapshots are block-based and save only the changed data. Not only do they save storage space, but they also reduce the time required to back up and restore data. The TS-431K supports up to 16 snapshots per volume or LUN, and up to 32 snapshots in total.

Very good NAS at an affordable price

The NAS works very well. No problems whatsoever in the 4 months I've had it (no reboots required or anything). I find the speeds quite efficient.
The interface is perhaps a bit cluttered, I would have preferred a simpler and more permissive system (but no doubt I like tinkering, for Mr/Mrs Everyman this is surely better).

I'd recommend it, but of course I don't think you can really evaluate this kind of product until it's been around for several years.
