WD Red Plus hard drives offer a wide range of solutions for customers who want to build powerful NAS storage. Designed for NAS systems with 1 to 8 bays, WD Red drives can store all your valuable data.
3,5" 1 TB 64 MB Serial ATA 6Gb/s Internal Hard Drive - WD10EFRX (bulk)
Specifically designed for 1 to 8 bay NAS systems, Western Digital Red Plus hard drives are built to run 24/7 and are aimed at home and small office environments. These 3.5" hard drives are built around 64 to 256 MB of cache on a SATA III bus. They are compatible with most major NAS servers.
Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology , built into all WD Red Plus hard drives, improves the storage performance of NAS systems by eliminating common problems related to compatibility, integration, upgradeability, reliability and cost of ownership issues that are common with traditional hard drives designed for desktop computers.
NASware optimizes power consumption to achieve significant energy savings and minimize hard drive operating temperatures. This improves overall drive reliability and performance and reduces the cost of ownership of your NAS system.
With intelligent error recovery commands , NASware prevents hard drives from being excluded from RAID through improved error recovery. This results in better availability and less time wasted rebuilding the RAID.With command completion and for improved reliability, in the event of a power failure, NASware minimises data corruption or loss by still executing the current command before shutting down.

I had already bought two of these hard drives for a workstation, mounted in RAID 1. It's been almost 7 years, and one of them has just broken down, after running more than 17500 hours. I only had to replace it with a new one (on which I leave this review), and the SATA/RAID driver integrated with my Intel motherboard automatically rebuilt the RAID 1, the workstation is back to normal !
Used to run H24 on my Synology NAS as a single drive at first. I've been using it regularly for almost a month now, and it's doing a great job. To be seen in the long run.
I have never had any surprises with their products. Very good product.
Western Digital sells these "Red", adapted for NAS, 1.5 times more expensive than basic hard drives.
They are supposedly adapted, robust.
After a little more than 2 years of use, I'm sad to say that mine didn't last any longer than the "Blue" ones I used to use.
After having tried "blue", "black" and "red", the conclusion is the same: life span of max 2.5 years.
So why sell some models at a higher price?
Not to mention that whatever the type, even the ones that cost twice as much, because they are supposed to be rugged and reliable, have the same warranty period: 2 years.
It's a load of rubbish.
It's almost a rip-off.
