The internal Sata hard drive is easy to mount in the case, and once plugged into my new Mac mini, it works as an external USB 3 drive just as it did when it was an internal hard drive in my old Mac pro. Just remember to open the switch!

I had in mind a case for a bare HDD, I chose this one.
I chose it because of the brand I already know, having already taken another device from the same manufacturer.
I'm taking off half a star for the vertical station support because it doesn't look solid. Otherwise, it is a box that works well.
It works well without being too noisy. Perfect addition to new slimboxes and to expand their storage.
Used to listen to music files on the direct USB input of a CD player. The playback is excellent, which requires a very good conversion to USB on the one hand, and a good cable on the other, all with the right impedance matching for both. For what I do, the relatively short but good quality cable is an advantage.

Good quality but...
In the description and on the packaging, you can read "No disk capacity limit" but this is not true. Beyond 3TB, the case limits the size of the disk to 2.2TB which corresponds to the maximum capacity of the MBR partition tables and it is not compatible with the current GPT partition tables! You can indeed mount all sizes of disks but your disk of more than 3to will be limited to 2,2to ! Too bad!
The order and delivery are fine.
However, there is a problem with the product description:
ICY BOX IB-351StU3-B: "No disk capacity limit".
This is wrong, because I wanted to install a 4TB HD formatted (Seagate ST4000DM004) and it sees it in 2 inaccessible partitions of 2.048TB and 1.7TB. According to the manufacturer, 4TB is supported "if you format the disk with 512Byte clusters". So much for Format's default values for this size of disk and stupid in terms of performance.
Do not take for HDs over 2TB!
This simple and robust enclosure is perfect for recovering an ex-NAS drive and turning it into an external hard drive. It is USB3 compatible with all USB computers, and fast for a USB3 compatible computer.
I bought this box to recover the HDD contained in a LaCie external hard drive whose SATA interface was out of order. There is no doubt that this box works very well. It reacts quickly, the transfer rates are correct. There are two small flaws though. First, the vibration level is much higher than the LaCie case, even though it is the same HDD. Secondly, the white plastic stand: it is a little too narrow for the case, so I put it on under duress and it held for about twenty minutes. Since then, the disc is flat, which accentuates the transmission of vibrations to the cabinet in which it is located.
This box is robust and reliable.
It works perfectly as well in plug and play under Windows 7 and 10 as under Linux (whatever the distribution: I tested 5, based on different mother distributions)
It's not very suitable for transport as it has no shock absorbing structure, but it's very stable in horizontal position. I banned the small plastic base supplied in the package to position the case vertically, as it is not stable at all. In horizontal position, everything is perfect.
I highly recommend it.
