U7-Pro wifi 7
I decided to take a look at what Wifi 7 had to offer, because I'm firmly convinced that wired is the best performing and most stable solution (I have 10Gb and 2.5Gb at home).
Hearing talk of several dozen Gb of throughput, and well aware of the 'shuffling' done by manufacturers and influencers on this subject.
For very little money (200€) and a 2.5Gb POE+ injector, I took the plunge, knowing that I already had very good Wifi AX 2400 speeds above Gigabit (QNAP).
I was familiar with Ubiquiti in a professional context.
But 9300 Mb/s in triband (2.4, 5 and 6 Ghz) wouldn't be possible anyway, given the U7-Pro's 2.5 port.
With an Intel Wifi BE card in the PC.
- Under Windows 10 there's no Wifi 7 but AX Wi-Fi (5 Ghz / 160), and data rates exceed 1.5 Gb or even 1.8 Gb, so that's pretty good, bearing in mind that there are 2 fewer antennae than on the QNAP.
- Under Windows 11 it's OK, Wifi 7 connection in 6Ghz band 320, speeds reach 2.2 Gb at best, in Wifi it's new!
The most interesting thing is that as you move further away, you automatically switch to 5Ghz or even 2.4Ghz with lower speeds, and this is automatic (thanks Wifi 7).
Ubiquiti provides a remarkable access point for its price (see competing offers costing several thousand euros...).
In favourable conditions, the maximum throughput of the access point's 2.5Ghz port is reached.
The Plus
- Price
- Speeds (between 1.5 Gb and 2.2 Gb)
- WPA3 only and frequency at 320/160/80 etc...
- Administration interface (Unifi Network Server)
- Positioning aid with map in the admin interface (wall thickness, glazing, etc.),
- Mobile application (Wifiman) to map the WiFi signal.
- Stability guaranteed.
The minuses
- Ceiling installation required (holes, POE+ cable routing).
- Requires either a 2.5 GHz POE+ injector, a POE+ switch or a POE+ router (2.5 Gb or more).
I recommend this access point for its price
