Don't boot linux or windows !! memory compatibility or os ???? I'm still looking for ... I started late ... but after many attempts not yet successful
received early february 2020
no problems with the device
installation of G.Skill RipJaws Series SO-DIMM DDR4 2400 RAM arrays ( https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00201791.html ) without any problem and without any force in laptop slots (back when laptops were modifiable)
recovery and installation of a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD in a laptop slot (see note above :D), no cables to foresee or to connect
fortunately the bios beeps at startup, otherwise no noise is heard
/! remember not to put anything on the case, otherwise the heat will not be evacuated (fanless, so natural convection)
I bought it to use as a media player PC under Windows 10. With 8GB of RAM and an SSD it works very well.
As a media player it is very good, the Intel graphics chipset decodes almost everything in hardware, the only small lack is the support for HDR which is only available from the UHD 620 chipset (this PC has a UHD 600).
Another peculiarity is that the terminal on the HDMI connector that is used for CEC (HDMI commands between devices) is short-circuited. As a result, HDMI CEC did not work at all on all devices. It was impossible for example to control the power, volume and other functions of the home cinema with the TV remote. After tearing my hair out I finally figured out what was going on. To solve the problem, I simply twisted pin 13 of an HDMI cable so that it no longer made contact with the PC output and then, miraculously, everything worked again.
Product ordered on September 19 on the site, upon receipt I noticed a problem with the power supply, after contacting LDLC support I sent it back so that they could test it, they noticed the same problem and sent me a new model.
Received this second model, I test it again and exactly the same problem with the power supply, send it back to the after sales service, they confirm the problem and send me a new one.
I received the third model, exactly the same power supply problem (defective series?), for an after-sales service that is supposed to be reputable, it would be nice to check the products you send! I also noticed that the packaging of this third product does not seem to be complete, or even already used (no protective film on the PC, the cardboard box for storing the power supply is missing, plastic films are missing on the thermal paste), I was replaced with a new model by a second-hand model?
Very disappointed by my order and the website!
As described, I installed Windows 10 and my favourite software.
It is still very fast, the numerous USB ports are very practical and I have however installed a USB hub for the keyboard and mouse to free up the USB3 slots.
It seems to be very solid, to see in time.
I recommend this product.
Used to manage a PFsense firewall.
The 2 lan present are perfect for my router use.
Quiet and more economical than my old dedicated pc.
Used with a linux without HMI as a router on my network, it is very good for that.
It's quiet, doesn't heat up much, it knows how to be forgotten.
The look is nice too :)
The only reproach I will make to it:
it emits an awful beep at boot time... and I haven't found a way to make it disappear... (no possibility in the bios a priori)
I used a raspberry as a router and Linux server at home (DHCP, DNS, NAS, DLNA, ...). It gave me good and loyal services but it was not necessary to ask too much of it either. And ARM is good, but you don't have to want to do VMs, or to be efficient on an encrypted partition...
With this little box, I stay in passive cooling so completely inaudible, but I increase CPU/RAM tenfold, while switching back to an x86 microarchitecture, the dream... I've been waiting for years for a quality/price ratio like this one, 270€ with 8 Gig of RAM, to which you have to add storage (well, it's still more expensive than a raspberry...).
The BIOS is buggy (I'll take a star off for that), even with the latest version. I sweated several times when I set it up because it wouldn't reboot. With perseverance, everything went back to normal, and now with a debian buster, it runs smoothly (4K HDMI, bluetooth, wifi, network, sound, ... but the sleep mode causes crashes, I disabled it) and I don't touch it anymore. It's gone for a few years! (I hope)
I was very disappointed when I received this Zotac CI329: the RAM I had ordered did not work!
Indeed, it seems that the BIOS of July 2018 does not support 1 x 8GB G.Skill RipJaws 2400MHz.
I contacted Zotac's international technical support, I was able to receive all the help one could hope for: an updated BIOS, released by pure luck on January 25. Long after this CI329 model was first released!
Everything works perfectly with a G.Skill RipJaws 2400MHz, 1x8GB (available on LDLC at the time of this post).
I also used a Crucial SSD, a MX500 250GB.
A small Fedora 29, on a silent and powerful server that will be forgotten, is quite excellent. We still have 2 RJ45 and Wifi! The admin-sys is a first class citizen.
The VGA socket is a bonus, to recycle all those old screens that clutter us up. This CI329 is resolutely ecological.
And in the worst case, if I don't need it anymore, it will make a perfect desktop PC for someone around me, with its VESA mount included in the box.
Very good piece, as always with the Zotac CI300 series.
When I received this little block, I was delighted to be able to have such a small computer with a dual RJ45 network in order to set up a firewall in front of an installation. Unfortunately, it was defective.
Hopefully the replacement will be better.
However the after sales service is really great.
