Compact 5 Channel Class D Premium Amplifier - 4 x 120 Watts

Overview

Powerful and compact Class D amplifier

The Focal FPX 5.1200 Class D amplifier offers 5 output channels, 4 x 75 Watts + 1 x 420 Watts RMS (up to 1200 Watts maximum in bridged mode) to meet the most demanding installations. The aluminium chassis design developed by the brand's engineers is the strength of the FPX range: it ensures optimal reliability while maintaining a compact size. This model delivers more power to drive different configurations including a subwoofer. The FPX 5.1200 has a dedicated subwoofer channel with a maximum output of 720 Watts RMS into 2 Ohms.

Thanks to an input selector (2/4/6 channels) that duplicates the channels, it always delivers 5 channels of output, even if the car radio only has one or two stereo line outputs. In order to manage a 5-channel installation (front speaker, rear speaker, subwoofer), the FPX 5.1200 has very complete settings. A remote control allows the bass level to be controlled from the driver's seat, depending on the music being played.

Optimised design

This FPX amplifier is built on a thick aluminium chassis (9.5 mm on the top, 17.5 mm on the sides) to provide efficient and controlled heat dissipation.

The component layout has been carefully designed to optimise the cooling capacity of the chassis. Careful selection of components (switch mode power supply, oversized toroidal transformers, high quality capacitors) has resulted in a powerful, musical and truly compact amplifier.

Simplified installation

By using Class D technology, this product reduces the heat dissipation requirements on its FPX range. With its dimensions (337 x 175 x 57 mm), the 5-channel FPX 5.1200 amplifier delivers a maximum power of 4 x 120 Watts + 1 x 720 Watts under 2 Ohms!

The installation of the hi-fi system is greatly simplified with only one amplifier to hide and only one power supply, all in a reduced volume. In order to perfectly match the subwoofer to the rest of the system, the bass channel includes an active low-pass filter, a bass equalizer, a phase corrector and a subsonic filter.

    Perfect

Product meets my expectations, powerful and compact.

The terminals for the speaker cables accept a maximum cross-section of 2.5mm2. I hadn't seen this in the manual, so it's a good thing I didn't go any bigger.

It will be used to supply 4 channels to an 80Wrms Focal 200mm kit and an 80Wrms Focal 165mm F3E Flax kit, for the sub I'm sticking with my FPX 1.1000.

I'd recommend the FPX range without any worries, it's good equipment that lasts over time.
