A musical and compact amplifier by Focal

Designed to offer great flexibility of use, the Focal FPX 4.800 is a very compact four-channel amplifier of 4 x 120 Watts RMS under 4 ohms. Its operation in 4/3/2 channel mode, its stability under 2 ohms, its active filtering for each pair of channels make it the most versatile model in the range to meet all your expectations. Its high power output allows you to drive the front and rear speakers, or a Hi-Fi installation with a 2-way front kit and a subwoofer. With a 2/4 channel input mode, it is also compatible with car radios that have only a pair of line outputs.

Focal know-how

The FPX amplifiers are built on thick aluminium chassis (9.5 mm on the top, 17.5 mm on the sides) and advocate efficiency as much as heat dissipation. The distribution of components on the motherboard has been carefully designed to optimise the cooling capacity of the chassis.

Careful selection of Class D components - a switch-mode power supply, oversized toroidal transformers and high quality capacitors - has resulted in powerful, musical and truly compact amplifiers. Easily integrated, this Focal amplifier also delivers a very important power to meet the expectations of enthusiasts!

Power and musicality

The FPX 4.800 delivers 4 x 120 Watts RMS under 4 ohms. In bridged mode, it delivers 2 x 370 Watts RMS under 4 ohms, which allows a good bass channel to be animated with the 3 and 4 ohms channels. It is also stable under 2 ohms (4 x 185 Watts RMS) to adapt to different types of speakers.

To manage the speakers perfectly, each pair of channels has an active crossover that can be adjusted from 50 to 500 Hz: high-pass, low-pass or full range. Channels 3&4 have a bass corrector. Its 2/4 channel input mode allows it to work with mid-range car radios with only one pair of line outputs.

Super amp

I bought this amp for hp focal v1 165 and I also plugged 2 Pioneer of 90w rms on it, it works well but heats up a bit due to its very small size. It is smaller than an A4 sheet of paper which shocks me.
I'm in Guadeloupe and it arrived fine, I just noticed some glue on the box of the amp, I think it was supposed to hold it in the big protective box.
