I have nothing to complain about with this product, which allows me to back up my PC easily and share my documents.
Easy to install disks, no problems to access the configuration.
It's a bit confusing at first, there are many apps in the interface called "DSM".
Does its job very well as a personal cloud, synchronization from different devices works very well, like with owncloud, nextcloud or other "drive". The Android photo app is not bad, it transfers all the photos taken on the smartphone if you want.
I take off one star for the noise: the device is noisier than the tower of my pc. It was difficult to leave it next to my box in the living room because of this, I had to put it in the office. It is possible to program it to turn on and off.
Not very easy to implement.
I have to look for the docs on the internet and for the moment I can't see my NAS via Wifi if I'm not in the same room
Synchronization principle not well understood
The SIN is what I expected. Everything works the first time and it is very easy to set up.
Product meets my expectations. It took me a few days to get the hang of it, but there were a lot of videos that helped me
good product, doesn't take up much space. easy to insert and connect disks.
The system is too automated for my taste. It installed the update, configured the raid, deployed apps I didn't want. I had to spend time to remove everything and reconfigure the raid.
If not, the system has many useful features, intuitive interface
This is the second Nas from Synology that I have just bought, the first one was the DS213. I chose the DS218 for its compatibility with DSM 7 and also for its superior performance to the DS213.
In use, I would like to temper my previous opinion. It is true that the quality of the case and its design are far behind those to which I was accustomed. However, the operation is smooth, the functionality and performance are good. So, I would say after use that I am satisfied with the product and that I do not regret the purchase. So much for the box cheep!
Reading Christian R's comment below, I am very surprised. Having had a LaCie NAS myself a long time ago, I had nothing but problems: unusable interface (not doing what it was asked to do), NAS inaccessible for no reason very regularly, complete loss of data following two warranty returns and exchanges. In the end, LaCie's commercial gesture of exchanging my third copy for a "bigger and higher-end" model was useless, as this new NAS was no better than the previous ones.
On the other hand, this DS218 was my fifth Synology purchase (two for me and the others for friends/family) and everyone seems very happy with it. The interface may seem difficult to the uninitiated, but you don't have to use all the possibilities. The boxes are, in my opinion, well finished, light but solid (a NAS can be put on a desk and that's all), and not very noisy. The system of fixing the disks is top for me. The connectivity is practical and complete, for this price range. I'm not sure if it's a good one or not, but I'm sure it's a good one.
The synology with special NAS disks is a budget, but I am extremely satisfied. No bugs, works 24/7 with no worries. The pleasure of having access to these documents everywhere in the house and remotely is a comfort that I could not do without. I've been using it for a while now and it's been a great help to me in my work. I've been using it for a while and it's been a great help to me in my work. The fact that it works in Rais reassures me that my data will never be lost.
