The ideal solution for scanning books and magazines
Compact and battery powered, the IRIScan Book 5 Wifi allows mobile users to easily capture information from a book or magazine without detaching the pages. The scanned image is saved in the built-in memory, on a MicroSD card or via Wifi to your devices, no need to be connected to a computer!
A compact scanner
Don't let its size and portability fool you, IRIScan Book 5 Wifi is the most powerful battery-powered scanner on the market. No more cluttered desks! You'll be able to scan your books in a flash with its exceptional 30 pages per minute scanning speed. Store your scans on the included MicroSD card or any standard MicroSD card you already own (thousands of scans in the palm of your hand with its 32GB capacity).
Whether you're at home, on a plane or in a library, IRIScan Book 5 Wifi is the ideal scanner to scan everything and get rid of the books that are cluttering up your life.
Suitable for any type of document
The IRIScan Book 5 Wifi allows you to scan all types of documents: magazines, books, business cards, forms, receipts... It will be the ideal choice for people looking for a portable scanner or who want to scan their souvenirs in a simple way!
It features a bright 3.8cm colour display that allows you to instantly see the documents you've just scanned. So you can be sure to get high quality results every time.
Synchronise with any device via Wi-Fi
Insert paper documents into the sheet-fed scanner and the scanned images are automatically stored in the built-in memory and ready to be transferred via Wi-Fi to your smartphone, iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Windows computer or Mac. Best of all, you can use easy-to-use iOS/Android apps available online to facilitate Wi-Fi transfer to your mobile device!
Use IRIScan applications (apps) to import your scans to your smartphone. Depending on the version you select, you will be able to convert your documents into editable text, Word or PDF files and upload them to the Cloud (Dropbox, Google Drive or Evernote).
Although fast it is a bit complicated to use, and the battery when fully charged only holds about 10 scans which is far from the up to 100 pages per day (a failing battery) when paired with my phone. The android application is not updated since 2017 (it would be nice to add it in the description) and is not very ergonomic which makes it difficult to use.
This product turns out to be more of a gadget than a working tool in 2022/2023, skip it if you were planning to have a portable tool that is ergonomic and usable with or without a computer when you travel.

Practical, but requires practice to compensate for the limitations of the device
This scanner is really practical as it allows you to scan documents that are either too big for a flatbed scanner or that cannot be folded.
However, it requires a little practice to avoid distortions (mastery of the gesture to try to scan in a straight line), and lacks in my opinion assistance (either 1) by electronic correction at the time of scanning, since it must be possible to interpret the movement of the wheels (to be servo-controlled) to determine that the scanner is deviating and thus counterbalance at the electronic/optical level to avoid creating a distorted image, or 2) at the level of software support which, as a result, is only used for basic handling, and lacks elaborate correction tools).
So, for OCR, I think it's not bad at all, but for scanning requiring to keep the geometry of the document (plans, maths homework in geometry (for my daughter), etc), the result is often frustrating.
Another problem is that the device's memory often overflows, causing error messages (but in the end, you find that the "failed" scan was still saved on the memory card).
For example: we had to scan a very large architectural drawing, so we had to learn to fragment the scans, and still, the "crashes" happened irregularly. I have the impression that beyond 210x297mm, we enter into the unknown.
If the errors are linked to the scrolling speed (but after all, we don't know, since there is no indication of the nature of the crash), there is no indicator to succeed in scanning the first time...
It is therefore impossible to know if replacing the memory card provided by default, this "bug" would disappear, or if it is the user who goes too fast or too slow ... In short, the ergonomics are really minimal, which is a shame at a time when smartphone scanning apps are gaining a lot of ground.

Disappointing for the card
The product arrived on time but the micro SD card sold with the device is 4GB and not 32GB as indicated in the description. I will have to buy a 32GB one.

gadget but not only
Ideal on the go, it fits in your computer bag and is always ready to scan.
Beware of the handiness: for those who do not want to take the headache choose the auto scrolling model but the one that passes on the brochures, thin sheets of invoices etc...
Nothing to say

Good device, VERY bad software
The device itself is of very good quality, scanning is indeed extremely fast, even in 1200 dpi colour. It is quite easy to use, and it glides well, which allows a smooth movement for a good scan. The buttons are a bit strange, they are large, but only active in the middle, and with some play, so poor finish. (scanner surface is shiny, so fingerprints are likely. Not decisive, but silly).
Let's go to the thing that bothers me: the software and driver.
First of all, despite a recent purchase, the scanner does not come with the license number for the latest version of ReadIis Pro. Disappointing.
Secondly, it is impossible to use the scan on the computer!
With the supplied micro-USB cable, Windows installs drivers (the default ones), but ReadIris does not recognise them, so it is impossible to use the device. (Moreover, it confuses the portable scanner with the scanner of my network printer...)
And the Wifi functionality? (Which adds 30€ to the price all the same). Useless, too. To be able to use it, you need TWAIN drivers, which are not provided in the box, nor on the IRIS website, nor on the CANON website (owner of IRIS), and which cannot be found on the net. Since when it emits the Wi-fi field it is not usable without being connected to another device,
the functionality becomes totally useless, since it only allows to navigate in the provided SD card, which is also fast with a cable, or even by carrying the SD card itself...
In summary:
Strong point :
- Quality of scanning
- Speed of scanning
- Sd card provided which allows to store a lot of files.
- Licence for OCR software
Weakness :
- Wi-fi function not usable on PC (but works on mobile, however, no access to all scanner settings)...
In short, total disappointment. (2 stars for scanning quality only...)

It is a very practical device.
I recommend it because it is really practical to use. Lightweight, can be taken anywhere. Fast start up, equally fast scan.
However, I didn't manage to connect it to my smartphone via wifi. To be seen later.
