A cruel disappointment! UPS to be avoided.
To be avoided at all costs!
This UPS is a disaster:
- Horribly noisy fan (measured at 46dBA at 1m: in comparison, my main PC, equipped with 5 fans, emits 35dbA), which triggers and runs at full speed as soon as the UPS is activated, which includes "power surges" (see below).
- Loss of the USB link between the UPS and the supplied software when the mains voltage disappears, rendering the control software (for automatic PC shutdown) inoperative.
- Mammoth software (350Mb!) that installs a Tomcat server, a complete Java environment and a Flash application (although Flash will very soon disappear from browsers in favour of HTML5) on your PC.
- Incompatible with the excellent "nut" under Linux; don't believe the compatibility list of the latter which lists Infosec X3: the X3 *EX* is not supported.
- As soon as the mains voltage reaches 240V (this is the case for me in off-peak hours, so mainly at night!), the UPS triggers and reduces the output voltage by 40V (!?) (which then barely reaches 200V), also leading to overconsumption, since up to 40V * 5A (200W) is dissipated in pure loss! Such a behaviour could be accepted from 250V input, but not at 240V !!!!
- No load consumption (no load at the output, batteries charged to 100%) of 29W/57VA (measured with a true RMS Wattmeter), very excessive (my previous UPS, an Ellipse 1500, consumed only 10W).
In short, I am waiting for answers to the questions I asked Infosec, but it is more than likely that I will return this UPS to LDLC, because at this price, these defects are unacceptable!
I give it one star (because this UPS protects the equipment correctly from power cuts, and it holds the load well), but that's it!
I wanted to buy French, but I'm disappointed!
