Effective
Very good router, easy to configure, same interface as my nas synonym.
Great product.
Very good router, easy to configure, same interface as my nas synonym.
Great product.
The router works very well. The WiFi is very powerful and the application to manage and set up the router very practical.
Well delivered, easily installed and seems to work very well.
Serves as a dispatcher between modem and my installation.
I am very happy with this router so much so that I will order its little brother to extend the wifi in our house.
The router works very well, the integrated parental control is very well done, I really like the function allowing to limit the duration of access to the internet and thus force our children to take a break from the screens.
What bothered me was the lack of possibilities concerning wham. With a certain box, I had to add a manageable switch to merge vlan 100 and vlan 1 to be able to connect the TV player on the same network and thus benefit from the dnla service.
The best thing is the possibility to connect a 4G key in case of fiber or ADSL failure. This happened to me this weekend :( and as I didn't have a 4G key at hand, I was able to connect an android phone in modem mode to the router so that the whole household could benefit from the net, which was a success ;)
I have been using this product for almost 2 years now. It replaced an unstable RT1900 which had several problems (it's still hardware so it can happen).
In my use, it comes behind a box with a double level of routing, and is therefore used to secure my network. The parental control (Safe Access) works perfectly and is very complete in the possibilities of adjustment (adjustment of the policies of access web security by groups of peripherals in particular). The filtering works really well.
The Threat Prevention package is interesting but resource-intensive. I did not activate it.
Efficient DNS server, same for DHCP (with address reservation). Possibility of setting up QoS per workstation (and to a certain extent on applications), very effective and very useful when internet speeds are limited and everyone wants to access it in good conditions.
The VPN server works perfectly, it is simple and quick to set up (using OpenVPN in my case) and it is very complete.
I tested the failover on the WAN links with success (a 4G box on the nominal link and an ADSL on the backup link).
The Wifi Connect utility is great. It allows to filter by Mac-Address, to schedule the Wifi on/off, to create a guest network (with the possibility to access or not the resources of the main network) and to create a captive portal. On this last point, the test I carried out was not very conclusive.
The wifi satisfies me in terms of range, I did not encounter any problem.
Last point, it is possible to transform the router into NAS by connecting an external hard disk (not used in my case)
I'm not sure if this is a good idea for a family, it's powerful and complete while remaining easy to manage.
I refer to my previous opinion: I was about to send the router back when I made a last attempt... by disabling the automatic management of the switch to 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Much better, better than my box... that makes me feel better!
I had read some of the comments criticizing the WiFi... but I went ahead with the purchase anyway, as I also have a NAS of the same brand which I am very happy with.
I played... and lost! The WiFi signal is mediocre, even worse than the one emitted by a livebox 3!
Disappointing, my house is probably not conducive to WiFi.
I'm still convinced that it's a quality product, it's got a very good interface!
Hello,
Product received, well packaged.
It is without doubt one of the best routers currently available.
- The installation and configuration is very easy.
- Very fast networking and Vpn Plus
- A range of features beyond anything you could hope for.
- Product of Synology which is already known for its seriousness.
I recommend it without reservation.
If there was a negative side, it would be the price. But on the hardware side, it's a real gem: Fast (very fast, in fact) due to the system's connection optimization. The integrated graphical interface is really user friendly with lots of options and settings that can be adjusted according to the use. In particular, the parental control function allows me to easily control the connection times of children who sometimes (often) abuse the screens.
I am basically a fan of synology, especially for their Nas, and I was tempted by the very positive reviews on this router.
Having installed, configured and followed a large number of them in my professional life, of all brands and qualities, I am really very disappointed by this router.
After 1 year of use, here are my observations:
- the wifi range is correct without more
- The network often has lags or cuts (I'm not talking about internet speed), with no access to the admin.
- I am often obliged to restart the router to have again access to my network
In short, we are far from the performance presented and the reliability is very disappointing. If I had to choose, I wouldn't go back to a Syno router. They are great for the Nas, but still a lot of progress to make for the routers.
Finally a well thought-out router with all the features you could wish for.
In addition to all the usual functions of this type of equipment, it is equipped with an OpenVPN server and an OpenVPN client.
The OpenVPN client allows you, for a subscription fee, to surf the web via another country and thus remove geolocation restrictions, but also to anonymously return all your traffic on the Internet. Possibility to import several configuration files and OpenVPN certificates.
Possibility to make "site to site" VPN via the addition of a license.
Various monitoring and security systems, ssh access.
Very well thought out and effective parental filtering, with the possibility of forcing all Internet searches to use the "safesearch" mode exclusively, in order to protect the little ones.
The web management interface is very similar to that of the NAS of the brand and really very simple to use.
After analyzing it from every angle, I don't see what this device is missing, it is really very complete.
...not perfect because nothing is perfect!
- My first reservation is perhaps very debatable as it may be linked to my home, but I find the propagation a little "weak", despite four antennas, forcing me to acquire a secondary router to "irradiate" a 2 x 90 m2 house. I don't take this into account in the note because it is very specific.
- So my main reservation is software. The management software works well but is rather slow. This is only a (micro) concern during the configuration phase. Also "DHCP reservation", very useful to give "clear" names to computers, phones, etc. is in a different application than "MAC filtering". With each new device, it takes me 30s to find my way around, but I still end up making my settings quickly.
I would add that the associated smartphone and tablet applications are obviously more basic than the web interface, but very useful to check at a glance that everything is running normally.
All in all, a very good product.
I was expecting a clear improvement in my wifi coverage by using this router in addition to an Orange livebox; and I am disappointed because I do not have a greater range and therefore an improvement in the quality of my wifi network. A lot of noise for nothing, therefore, around this product.
I bought this router as a replacement for an Asus that was struck by a storm.
This router is perfect, the interface is particularly well done, the range is very good.
I also use the integrated NAS functionality.
I highly recommend it!
I installed this router in front of a debian NAS. I chose it for the following criteria:
- Beautiful applications coupled with SRM, the very complete bone of synology updated very regularly.
- Dynamic DNS client functionality (I use the OVH provider and it works perfectly).
- Presence of a very intuitive interface, both on the web app and on the Android app, of a Wake On Lan function
On top of that, the whole interface is more than very intuitive and very ergonomic.
The price was a bit of a deterrent for me, but it's very much in line with the quality of the hardware and especially the software that surrounds it.
I recommend it with my eyes closed!
I received the equipment on time and in good condition. The router is very easy to configure and the interface is in French, which makes it easy to use, even for someone who doesn't know much about computers. I'm very pleased with the quality of the product and the service. I'm very pleased with the quality of the product and the quality of the service.
I'm very pleased with the quality of the product. The Synology router is of good quality, silent, efficient, easy to set up, the product is really top notch. The Wi-fi coverage is important as well as the quality of the flow. I recommend it.
Synology router with the software (SRM) derived from DSM, equipping the NAS of the same brand. Conclusion: when you are used to it, it works by itself.
Good wifi (the 4 antennas are efficient), possibility to aggregate with a 4G key for example. Complete threat management software (firewall, proactive threat prevention, etc.).
In short, almost perfect. Some (small) flaws :
- software a bit slow to use;
- Threat Prevention is not yet fully adapted, and you will lose throughput when it is active (in fibre, not too annoying, in ADSL limited more)
- The form factor of the router makes it difficult to place correctly. I would have liked a form factor that would allow it to be wall mounted.
It's a very complete router.
Very good hardware; just one thing to know: at the moment an rt2600ac cannot act as a MESH access point, even if it can act as a basic router that handles MESH access points (ref: synology forum post rt2600ac 119566). This seems to be something planned (see discussion in the above post), but it will be better when confirmed by an update to SRM 1.2.
Already very happy with the nas 218play ;)
the router has almost the same interface as the nas, so easy :)
You can play, download, watch tv in short requested the router, well it does not cut like the bbox providers ;)
A VERY stable wifi, one can make switch automatically a device in 2.4ghz if this last does not receive the 5Ghz ;)
The parental control is even more advanced since the update of the interface srm 1.2
You can turn off the wifi during certain time slots, like at night for example, and it reactivates itself at the requested time.
Output usb 2 & 3 can be a dlna server or a file server.
It contains a WEBDAV server ;)
And a lot of other things ;) :)
After 6 months of use, I regret my purchase. Here is why:
I was looking for a high-performance router with an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) function. It does its job fairly well: the performance suffers. I've been using it for a while now, but I'm not sure I'll be able to use it for a long time.
However, it remains Synology hardware, with a very nice web interface and all the ecosystem that goes with it.
I didn't have the opportunity to test the 4G and the load balancing.
Ordered on Monday afternoon, product cleared customs and available in New Caledonia on Thursday. A great service (including Chronopost)!
I'm very pleased with the product and the service. The only thing left to do is to couple it to a NAS server and it will be perfect!
I have no complaints about this router, coupled with a SYNOLOGY NAS server, it's perfection for me.
The network management when you have a limited connection has become a real treat.
No more problems on the network with the priorities and the control of the flow, the calm is returned in the house.
The WIFI is much more efficient as is the range which has allowed me to remove a repeater. I even deactivated the one on the box because the router allows you to create a guest wifi network without interfering or communicating with the existing local one.
The box, the router and the NAS can be connected from the internet without any problem. It will be necessary on the other hand to manage the parameters well but nothing insurmountable.
The price seems a bit high but it is really worth it.
We are sure of the mastery and professionalism of SYNOLOGY.
You can buy it without fear.
The best non-professional router I have ever had
I recommend it very highly
I have already got a Synology product and I am not confused by their proprietary system, not open source, but I find that there is no fiddling to be done and the functions present are perfect.
The only downside is that they should have specified that a USB key is recommended in order to install other functions on the router.
Highly recommend
What to say, easy to install.
A simple and intuitive interface, if you already have a product from Synology like a Nas it's almost a copy/paste but router version.
A powerful wifi, it changes the box of ISP, with a real port and a real speed, my MacBook Pro wifi connection has 1300Mb, so to communicate with my Nas, precisely Synology, which is connected in wire to the router is happiness.
I'm not talking about all the simple things you can do, like limiting the speed of a device, favouring a service such as Netflix or Skype, setting time slots for certain devices to access the internet... etc
It's a good idea to have a little bit of control over your computer. It is still imposing :D
And even if it is the standard, just 4 Gb ports is light I have a switch behind.
It's a great product for managing your local network.
I bought this router to have a better wifi signal because my PC is very far from the box.
It's like night and day with the wifi transmitter of a box...
The interface to configure is very simple and clear and the possibilities of settings and network controls are complete. I am not a network specialist but it is quite accessible if you are not a computer novice.
I ordered this router to be able to control my infrastructure. I configured my B-BOX3 as a simple VDSL2 modem!
I have only had this router for a few days, but I am very happy with it. I have used a Synology Ds210j NAS server in the past. This model was a bit light on performance but it was indestructible, I kept it for over 4 years. I now have a Synology DS716+II 8Gb/2T NAS on this router.
I am using SRM 1.1.6-6931 Update 1 and so far I have had no problems with the hardware.
The only negative point: Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) not supported. Not too bad if you have a good switch with LACP/Trunk capabilities.
Definitely worth buying?
Excellent router, nothing to complain about. The wifi is perfect throughout the house where a dlink (AC wifi) struggled. Regular updates adding features and, most importantly, closing security loopholes discovered (already updated to fix the WPA2 security hole that was just discovered) whereas other brands don't update once the product is released.
Nothing to say the quality is there...
Lacks some features that may be important for some uses. I won't list them here, it's not the subject of my message.
I really hope that these features will be added with future updates of the RSM system
Router, very easy to use, I highly recommend this router.
You can go with your eyes closed.
All the spirit of Synology NAS in a router: simple software but containing all the usual options plus some bonuses (outgoing connection via VPN, so the whole house benefits; possibility of converting a LAN port into a second WAN, to aggregate cable+ADSL or ADSL+4G; dual identification; possibility of connecting an external hard drive to make it a quasi-NAS).
As with NAS, updates are regular (at least monthly) and the technical support is reactive and French speaking.
The small inconveniences: the power supply sometimes emits a discreet hissing sound; 4 LAN ports are not much, especially if one is transformed into a WAN; a bit bulky.
Very good product. It's the same level of software quality as the brand's NAS.
The only regret at the moment is the lack of granularity of the internet access control for children, which is done in one-hour increments.
In itself the router is well finished, rather massive and thinner than I expected, without getting too hot.
Not as flexible as a router running WRT or other open-source firmware, but Synology's SRM system still offers a wide range of options. Very smooth and pleasant to use.
Performance is excellent. The coverage is really good and the data rates are as good as I expected. Aggregation is easy to set up, as is 4G support.
The software in general is on par with what they offer on their NAS range.
The smartphone app (DS Router) is relatively anecdotal. Not yet tested the VPN provided.
Negative point, the feet are fixed and quite large, not easy for someone who wants to fix it on a wall / under a desk.
I have to say that I'm very happy with the way the product is delivered to me. Really reliable! <3
So, I was using the wifi of my box, and for me impossible to read a video in hd contained in my NAS of a peripheral in wifi, I invested in this product, 15 mins to install it, with the assistant synology, super simple, and here it is functional I recommend.
I've been using it for a while now and I'm very happy with it.
High speed delivery, despite the distance (DOM).
This router seems to me to be a "killer". Indeed, I am not a network specialist, I started it up in 10 minutes.
I have a very high speed hertzian link since recently, it is the ideal complement to broadcast in the whole house.
As a newcomer to Synology, it will be the ideal tool to initiate me to this new world.
This router will be used to set up my ZWave+ home automation solution.
I'm very happy with the purchase, the shipping and the delivery.
- Wifi network: 780 MB/s max, impossible to have more...
- 4 Gigabit ports are sufficient if you have a downstream switch.
- Support for 2 Wan ports in perfect aggregation (Example: ADSL/4G)
- Design: a bit wide but perfect and very well ventilated.
Missing: Link Aggregation in ethernet...
The router is perfect, simple to use, complete and above all it is fast. The wifi goes very far and covers the whole of my outdoor area even though the router is installed indoors. The only downside is that the 4G key support is ridiculously weak. As a result, I bought 2 incompatible 4G keys.
I liked the easy installation. Unpacked and plugged into my ISP modem. It worked straight away.
The pluses I liked for the future.
- detachable antenna (if wifi coverage is not yet acceptable to you, you can easily change the antennas).
- very useful for a small business that needs internet access all the time. you subscribe to cable + vdsl and the RT2600AC. it easily manages both (useful in case of failure).
- separate network for visitors.
- usb printer server for those who don't have a printer with network card.
I still have to see what it does for VLANs and Wifi with VPN behind it. (the goal is to create 3 Wifi (WifiFrance,WifiCanada and WifiUSA so that everyone can easily connect to the country concerned to have access to everything with Netflix,Deezer, the app on tablet which are only available in certain countries etc...)
Default.
- I have to measure its annual power consumption but it will certainly be at least 10€ per year in electricity.
- It is not yet possible to buy additional VPN+ licenses (connect remotely, turn on nas or pc)
Being already a Synology NAS user, it is easy to find the same interface as well as the Emule download utility (well placed, since the return is online 24/24. Very good signal in the whole house, elimination of the old "repeaters", ease of use, possibility of "remote" connection via Synology. We waited a long time for it, but it was worth it.
I was looking forward to this router and I am not disappointed.
Easy to install (same interface as the Synology NAS DSM).
The smart connection is effective in my configuration.
Very good product.
Having two Synology NASes already, this router is in the same league in terms of quality of setup, ease of access, and functionality.
The range and the Wifi speed are top notch, nothing to do with the anemic operation of the box.
The SRM was updated automatically upon connection.
Some small regrets, in Wifi terminal mode we lose some functionality compared to the router mode (traffic monitoring) ...
Another regret, which I think will be corrected, the volume of applications is still a little low. But knowing the brand, as well as the community, this should be solved quite quickly.
I followed the first comment and it was spot on, thanks to the author.
Easy to install, follow the steps.
Chosen for its parental filter and connection control mode. For the time being, I'm too young on this point.
I've been using it for a while now and it's a great product.
I'm not sure if it's a good idea to use the same software as the dsm nas.
I've been using it for a while now, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to put it in the dmz, as you'll get regular attack alerts.
Mine is behind the fai box with another ip plan.
The pluses:
sdxc card, USB 3 key, and ISP internet redundancy by 4g key
Going back to my previous review; I solved my sound mute problems with my Sonos speakers by disabling the smart connection (automatic 2.4Ghz/5Ghz selection) and setting my speakers to the 2.4Ghz network. It's a shame as the smart connection only allows you to use one SSID, but this apparently causes problems when streaming wifi.
