Excellent product, but could be improved

An excellent product that does its job well, in particular the ability to load-balance or fail-over on 4G - very useful when Internet access is essential for work, despite fibre cuts and other inconveniences that are not that rare. WAN LTE allows you to keep track of your data budget, so there are no surprises (especially when you're using a SIM cloned from your personal subscription). The interface is fairly simple but effective, and all the main options are there: MAC cloning for ISPs that require it, application/web firewall (not tested), client/server VPN, etc. The mobile app provides good monitoring access. Very good wired performance (1Gbps fibre -> 950M observed).

The router itself is a bit slow and reboots take a long time, so network settings can take a while.
Initial installation can be a problem, and you have to use the mobile app to get your first configuration up and running. The web interface lets you configure everything else. This is a problem we've already seen in product reviews.

In use, the 2.4G wifi seems rather slow, even erratic - regular disconnections for certain connected devices. Everything returns to normal by switching sensitive devices to 5GHz wifi.

In the end, all the negative points are non-blocking and may be corrected with future updates. So this product offers very good value for money in terms of quality/features/price (having tested several others).

    Good 1st 4G Router

Hi! I'm pleasantly surprised by this 4G connection, which in the best part of my room gives me a download speed of 8mo/s. The LTE signal is stable at full strength (4 bars) with my ISP's mast 23km away, which is excellent for maintaining the speeds received. I'm a long way from the 124 mbps of fibre, but having moved to an area without fibre, 4g offers a more than reasonable speed and the slowness isn't too noticeable when browsing-streaming but more when downloading-sending.

The application seems to me to be a little too technical for the average person like me in this field. What's more, when I make changes and click on the "apply" button, there's no indication (scroll bar or anything else) that it's making the change and when I return to the page where I made the changes, nothing has been done! bug? I've tried to update the firmware but the app tells me there's no new firmware. At this level of application, I've found it much easier with Netgear and other ISP routers.

Another tricky and time-consuming point is finding the right place to put it and orienting the antennae. Otherwise, speed and stability are top-notch! I can watch 4K video at 24 fps with no waiting time, but when it's 4K or 1080p or 720p video at 60 fps, it takes a bit of time (3-4 sec) before it starts up again, but in a place where I have a speed of 3.5-4 mbps.

Very satisfied with this Asus product, which I know more for its graphics card and sound reputation.
