Nice bug, taken to receive an i7 14700KF. I haven't tested the overclock, but the processor clearly has all the wattage it needs. And the integrated wi-fi + bluetooth, clearly a must have today with all the bluetooth peripherals and the bandwidth offered by the latest generation of wi-fi.
After assembling several PCs, my first Gigabyte motherboard burned out last week after 13 years of loyal service with an i7 930. Let's hope this one lasts as long. :)
Living in the dom, my order arrived in 10 days. Works perfectly, nothing to say and very happy with this purchase.
I wanted to change my DAW PC this time, and unlike all my previous computers, I decided to choose each element in a configuration that would evolve over time according to my needs.
As far as the GIGABYTE Z790 UD AX is concerned, here are the strong points that pushed me towards this choice of motherboard in ATX format (a format that already offers more than a µATX):
- The socket 1700 and the Intel Z790 chipset, so you can benefit from the latest Intel processors, in this case an Intel Core i7-12700K.
- Support for DDR5 memory with 4 slots, each supporting a maximum of 48 GB, making a total of 192 GB. I started with 32GB at 5,200MHz. My aim is not to go up to 192 GB, but rather 64 GB.
- An integrated graphics chipset: for a PC geared towards computer music, it's not really necessary to have one. The presence of a pair of HDMI / DVi sockets means I can have two screens, and above all postpone a not inconsiderable cost to the future as my production needs evolve.
- The Wi-Fi/Bluetooth duo: a fairly powerful wireless network card.
- PCI expansion slots: their presence reassures me for the future because I wanted to guarantee the possibility of increasing the number of USB sockets of all kinds, given that we need to connect a lot of peripherals, and I don't really like using USB hubs.
- M.2 slots and S.ATA sockets: storage was one of the key points, as I have a typical configuration that I'm happy with. Namely: a first M.2 NVMe SSD for the system and software and a second for the sound libraries, a first S.ATA SSD for storing productions and a second for everything else.
To help anyone out, here's the software I use:
- Windows 11
- Steinberg: Cubase Pro 12, HALion, Dorico 4 ;
- Native Instrument Komplete Ultimate ;
- iZotope ;
- Superior Drummer 3, EZbass
- etc.
After several months, I'm very happy with it!
Delivery: perfect (as usual!)
Disassembled baby, almost all parts still working .... (the motherboard was starting to fail) ... I opted for this configuration which may not be the best of the best, but which suits me perfectly for studio work ... and with a good reorganization of my case I went from a consumption in idle of 230W to a consumption of 83W ... but when you work on Premiere Pro it is really worthwhile to rely on NVMe in PCIe 4.0 Gen4 .... it's a bit more powerful than SSD in SATA 3 ... I'm very happy with the service and the quality of the product.
