A fantastic screen
Compared to the Intel version (4K 60Hz) :
- Windows is slightly less responsive, probably due to lower single core performance than the 12900H. Edit: tested the SSD drive (Samsung MZVLQ1T0) and for some reason it is 60% slower on Crystalmark compared to the Intel model (was a Micron SSD; didn't save the name).
- 120 Hz is noticeable during scrolling but makes videos jerkier due to better frame separation. In games I don't notice it even when my game is running around 120FPS, this is probably because the 4K display has a reaction time of 0.2ms, but I'll compare to 60Hz side by side tomorrow.
- The display hardware ID is SDC4178 (instead of SDC4177), it has the same brightness and perfect calibration (every colour and greyscale deviation less than 1), it's a better display than on Zenbooks or StudioArt devices (SDC415D) because the black tones are almost neutral, less bluish.
- Speaker quality seems better or the presets have been improved; the movie - detailed mode is now very close to my custom sound calibration. - Keyboard feels slightly more springy
- Game performance is excellent: God of War plays between 42 and 58 FPS with ultra settings, VSYNCH enabled and DDLS set to Quality (scales to 2134 x 1334). Asus may have made some adjustments to the speakers and keyboard since the models are newer.
- Thermals are excellent, even in high performance mode while playing God of War, the airflow was not at all unpleasant.
- Battery life is about 4 hours at max brightness in performance mode when browsing, SSD testing, playing 4K videos but no games/.
I will receive an Intel version with Nvidia 3070 Ti tomorrow (ordered in Japan!!) and I will be able to make the comparison
