The Tascam Portacapture X8 lets you enjoy sound recording wherever you are. With the convenience of this Tascam portable recorder, you can create professional quality recordings on the move, as easily as at home. Immediately after powering up, the Portacapture X8's large colour touchscreen displays the Launcher, which allows you to easily select the most suitable audio settings for your application.
The powerful and easy-to-use recorder
The Portacapture X8 features a pre-determined level setting, allowing for a wide dynamic range through the use of two high-end A/D converters and a 32-bit floating point recording engine. The result is uncompromising audio quality.
The Portacapture X8 can be used as a compact mixer with built-in microphones for live streaming via OBS or similar platforms and allows the streaming of up to 8 tracks (6 inputs + stereo mix) via USB. Compatible with the USB Type-C power specification, it provides any external microphone with 48 volts phantom power via the USB bus.
The Portacapture X8 comes with 2 high quality static microphones , each 14.6mm in diameter . A detachable mechanism allows the left and right microphones to be attached and detached flexibly to form AB or XY pairs.Combined with the dual A/D converter, 32-bit floating point audio processing and sampling rates up to 192 kHz, these microphones capture everything from the softest of whispers to the loudest of performances.
Multi-track recording
The Portacapture X8 allows simultaneous recording of up to 8 audio tracks in total (6 separate tracks + stereo mix). You can choose which inputs to record to which tracks, apply noise gate, compressor, EQ and reverb, just like on a mixing console.
On the combo inputs (XLR/TRS combo), Tascam uses proprietary HDDA (High Definition Discrete Architecture) microphone preamps for high quality audio recording. These lockable inputs accept mic or line levels. The Portacapture X8 is ready for most of your everyday recording challenges. An additional mini-jack input and output allow you to connect your camera or other audio device, and of course, it also has a headphone output, powerful enough for monitoring even in noisy environments.
Finally, the Portacapture X8 weighs less than 500g and can be mounted on any DSLR camera with its rear passive shoe adapter. You can also mount it on a microphone stand or a wireless receiver. Attached in this way, it is less susceptible to handling noise, further enhancing the quality of your recordings
