Overview

TVS-672X: High Performance 10GbE NAS

Powered by an Intel Core i5-8400T processor, the QNAP TVS-672X-I5-8G NAS offers high performance with its 10GbE network interface and 8GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 64GB). Designed for virtualization and 4K multimedia content, it comes with full multimedia features and expandable storage capacity to best fit your current and future needs.

The TVS-672X supports M.2 NVMe SSDs for cache acceleration, PCIe expansion, multi-cloud backup, HDMI 2.0 4K output, and real-time transcoding; with expandable storage capacity and feature-rich apps to work as a cost-effective, reliable, and multi-functional NAS solution

Quad-core processor with up to 64GB of memory

The TVS-672X adopts a Hexa-Core Intel Core i5-8400T processor with dual-channel DDR4 memory (expandable up to 64GB) to handle heavy multitasking workloads. Support for AES-NI encryption boosts encryption performance to secure the NAS data without affecting overall system operations.

Cost-effective 10GbE environment

The TVS-672X features two Gigabit ports and one 10GBASE-T Multi-Gigabit (10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100M) port for high-speed networking to support bandwidth-intensive applications (including virtualization, large file transfer, high-speed backup/recovery, and multimedia transmission). QNAP's manageable and non-manageable 10GbE switches are ideal for organisations that want to establish cost-effective high-speed networks for productive team collaboration. Also, the TVS-672X includes four USB 3.1 ports with transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, providing compatibility with newer and faster USB disk/expansion enclosures for transferring large media files.

Gain performance with SSD and Qtier cache

For optimal I/O and reduced latency, you can configure the SSD cache using either 2.5-inch SSDs or two NVMe 2280 M.2 SSDs (sold separately) in the TVS-672X. Additional M.2 SSD slots can also be added by installing PCIe QM2 cards, allowing you to configure your M.2 SSDs in a RAID 5/6 array to achieve higher sequential speed or read-only cache speed similar to the performance of a RAID 10 array while maintaining high storage efficiency.

4K HDMI output for multimedia content and VMs

The TVS-672X features Intel® UHD Graphics 630 which supports hardware decoding and real-time transcoding*. The HDMI 2.0 output supports up to 4K (3840 x 2160p) at 60 Hz. This provides exceptional benefits for applications such as video production/editing or industrial design that require high resolution and colour realism as well as huge media storage, transfer and display capabilities. By connecting the TVS-672X to an HDMI display, you can run virtual machines from Virtualization Station or Ubuntu Linux Station, or directly watch the media content stored on the NAS. QNAP HD Station also allows users to enjoy multimedia directly using the HD Player or third-party players such as Plex Home Theater.

Protect your data with higher security

The TVS-672X is packed with comprehensive security features to keep your data safe.

  • QuFirewall for network security: Supports IPv6, firewall access lists, and GeoIP filtering to restrict access based on geographic location to enhance network security.
  • WPA2 Enterprise: Provides enterprise-class security for corporate networks, including Certificate Authority, encryption key and enhanced encryption/decryption.
  • Security Counselor: A security portal that checks for weaknesses and offers recommendations to improve NAS security. It also includes anti-virus and anti-malware scanning software.

Enhanced Collaboration

The TVS-672X centrally stores data and files, and supports SMB/CIFS, AFP, and NFS protocols for file sharing over Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX networks. In combination with the Qsync utility, any file transferred to the TVS-672X will become available to all linked devices (such as desktops, laptops and mobile phones). You can synchronise shared folders and team folders for group file sharing to enhance the flexibility of team projects and collaborative work. Support for Azure Active Directory Domain Services (Azure AD DS), Windows AD, and LDAP services helps system administrators manage user accounts and permissions for multiple NAS devices more efficiently.

Build an affordable Fibre Channel SAN environment

Common Fibre Channel SAN devices are often expensive. By installing a QNAP dual-port 16/32 Gbps Fibre Channel expansion card in the TVS-672X, you have more affordable options to add a NAS to a SAN environment. You can configure a Fibre Channel target using the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app. In addition, the LUN masking and port binding features provide an extra layer of security for your data.

    Excellent product

Coming from the Synology universe with a DS1813+ that was almost 10 years old, I was very hesitant to take this model. It's true that Synology has a very extensive and well thought out software toolkit. But on the hardware side, there's no question, Qnap (as well as Asustor) are way ahead. Whether in scalability, performance or connectivity. The software environment is more delicate than Synology, but you get used to it. In the end, it's very comparable, even if it's less visually accomplished on the desktop. The mobile apps are simple and effective. The mobile apps are simple and efficient. Some difficulties with the transcoding codecs, but this will be solved.
    I added :
    - 32MB of Cucial 2666 memory,
    - 2 SDD WD BLACK NVMe of 1TB each for the cache,
    - 4 HDD WD NAS pro of 16Tb in raid 5 for data storage (these beasts are hot!)
    - 2 HDD Seagate nas recovered from my old NAS and mounted in raid 1 for video surveillance (puncture-proof disks!)
I'm using it as a central storage for video surveillance, video / photo / music storage, and I'm adding 2VMs.
The 10Gb network is just magic, I couldn't stand the slowness of gigabit anymore, even if I also had to invest in a small switch and dedicated network card for the pC (also Qnap)
Probably overkill for my needs, but a nice LDLC discount made me take the plunge.
Ordered on a Friday late in the day, delivered the next morning! Yes! Thank you LDLC!
