Great
My first SIN, and not disappointed by far. It's very simple with this kind of jewel you can do everything.
It's very simple, with this kind of NAS you can do anything. Whether it's to install virtual machines, create containers, with all the possibilities it offers, you do what you want. I store all our photos on it and with the native QNAP applications you have everything at hand.
I'm a computer scientist so I'm comfortable with this kind of product but it's not for everyone.
You need to have some knowledge, and especially specific needs such as virtualization, otherwise turn to "simpler" models and therefore less expensive.
With this QNAP, I installed 4 hard disks of 8 TB each, in RAID 6. I added a 32 GB RAM strip, which is already very, very large. I can add another 32 if necessary. The processor does not flinch.
It handles a nginx reverse proxy, websites, some containers, Debian VMs. An IP camera via QVR Elite, my music, my movies. It allows me to centralize everything. Backup tasks in the cloud (HBS) for the most sensitive data for the worst case scenario.
There is a vast panel of QNAP applications that can be installed and tested in one click. The only limit is your imagination.
I also installed a 10 GBps network card via one of the 2 PCI ports.
It's a real head turner with a Freebox Delta and fibre via SFP LAN. It's huge. It is this network part that made me lean towards the QNAP brand, namely to natively have 2 network interfaces in 2.5 GBps what seems cruelly missing to the competing brand.
Clearly not cheap but so amazing I can't even imagine the ranges above... It will be for a few years :)
In short, it's a beautiful toy that offers very interesting extension possibilities that make it very current and meet all the needs of everyday life and more.
I'm very happy with it ! :)
