In general, this PC is just great:
Very powerful processor and GPU, a beautiful design, a very correct weight, etc...
But a big problem comes to ruin everything: it heats up a lot.
When I open a game, the CPU immediately goes up to 100°, and the GPU stays around 70°. The chassis is hot, you can't touch it...
Also, the battery does not allow for more than 5 hours of use...
I have been using it daily for a year now for my work as a freelance consultant/software engineer. I was looking for a powerful, light, mobile and versatile laptop mainly dedicated to work.
In my case, it is configured with a dual boot Windows/Linux and supports without problem all the tools related to my professional activity mainly centered around software development. I was able to take advantage of a good discount when I bought it, and I was able to get a Windows license at a lower cost from another supplier. The fact that it is without OS allows me to benefit from a better price.
On the move, I can easily last a day on the battery. In the office, I use it in addition to the MSI Prestige dock connected in Thunderbolt 4, which allows me to connect all my peripherals (3 screens, keyboard/mouse, headset, ethernet) with a single wire and to recharge it thanks to Power Delivery.
With that, it has a nice finish, a good look, a backlit keyboard, a comfortable touchpad/keyboard with a good feel, a fingerprint reader, an infrared camera and thanks to the graphics card, I can also occasionally use it to play a few games that are not very resource intensive.
So to sum up, I'm very happy with it, it's a great compromise at a lower cost and I can only recommend it to anyone with similar uses. I'm also considering upgrading it to 32GB RAM and 1TB storage soon.
On the downside:
- unconventional layout of some of the keys on the keyboard
- BIOS to be updated upon receipt to avoid some inconveniences
The laptop heats up a lot, especially the part at the top of the keyboard, placed on a wooden desk, at rest or hardly used, in an air-conditioned room. Sometimes it freezes because of this problem. When it comes out of sleep mode, the antivirus takes a while to reconnect to the network. I miss my old asus which was getting old (wifi, bluetooth, usb, old generation i5 processor, no nvme...), but worked perfectly. I will never buy another msi laptop. To be avoided!
