Lightweight, compact, with a real numeric keypad, and much faster than an equivalent machine from 4 years ago. Perfect for office use. The only thing missing is the backlit keyboard, which can sometimes come in very handy.
I've just received my Asus Vivobook GO 15 S1504GA-BQ407W laptop and here's what you need to know.
Surprise on unpacking: the PC comes with a backpack for storing it.
The first time you plug it into the mains, once you press the ON button, you have to wait a few seconds for the screen to come on. I thought it might be an unwelcome problem, but it wasn't. Just a little patience and the light was on.
The 15.6-inch screen has very thin black edges, which makes it sufficiently elegant and stylish. The image is pleasant, bright enough, and you can see well all over the screen, even if you're looking at it from the side.
The keyboard has a numeric keypad zone on the right, for entering numbers. This keypad is not available on all laptops. I'm delighted to have it on this Asus!
On a minor note, there's no LED to indicate whether the numeric keypad is activated or not.
On the other hand, there is an LED on the Caps Lock key, which is a good thing.
The enter key on the keyboard is very small; I would have preferred a large key on the laptop, but that's not a problem.
The keyboard keys are very well made, you can feel when the key is depressed and when it's released, you know what you're doing and you can type accurately without pressing the wrong keys. So you make fewer typing errors than on other laptops, and you can type quickly and silently.
The material around the keyboard's keys, which appears to be rigid plastic, doesn't dig in when you press the keys, unlike the material on the keyboards of other laptops in the same category. This is a very positive point, guaranteeing solidity and stability when typing.
When the PC is first configured, we are asked for the network name and Wi-Fi password so that we can download updates.
We are then asked for a name for the PC.
