A great SIN, but...
I bought the Asus Lockerstor 8 NAS for semi-professional use. It's a good NAS.
It has 8 slots, each of which accepts a maximum of 22Tb, which with RAID 5 (if you don't want to take too many risks) gives a maximum of 154Tb of storage.
That's more than enough for almost any purpose.
On the plus side:
- Ease of installation. Asus provides a huge amount of documentation, but in the end it's easy to see that with the Asus Control Center, it's very easy to configure the NAS.
- It's very easy to set up: in its most minimalist configuration, the NAS only needs 2 cables, an Ethernet cable and a power cable, so you don't have to worry about dozens of cables dangling around.
- Performance, with the option of 2 x 10 Gbps
The downside:
On the downside, it's not perfect. It's impossible to set the fans to semi-passive. Even when you're not using the NAS, the fans stay on and make a lot of noise.
