The ExpressCage MB322SP-B is a mobile rack that converts a 5.25" bay into four 2.5" SAS/SATA HDD/SSD slots (7mm-9.5mm). With its unique tool-less installation, the ExpressCage makes it easier than ever to install your 2.5" SATA or SAS HDD/SSD, and optional drawer screw holes are provided for added stability. With a 40mm cooling fan strategically placed behind the unit and overall ventilation, your drives will stay cooler than the Arctic. An adjustable fan speed knob lets you choose between HIGH, LOW or AUTO (Smart Cooling) settings so you can configure it to suit your preferences. IT professionals and system builders will love the space savings, tool-free installation and hot swapping provided by the ExpressCage MB324SP-B.
The MB324SP-B uses the standard 5.25" bay and converts to 4 hot-swappable 2.5" bays with support for 2.5" SATA and SAS HDD/SSDs between 7mm and 12.5mm high. Our versatile enclosure supports SATA III 6Gb/s and single-channel SAS (requires SAS controller card). Extremely efficient, the ExpressCage MB324SP-B can power all 4 drives with a single 15-pin SATA power connector that can free up cable tangles and simplify your system. A 40mm fan located in the centre-rear of the enclosure keeps your drives cool with ventilation across all four drives and heat dissipation through air vents around the unit. Control the amount of airflow with the switch provided. A replacement fan can easily be fitted if the basic one doesn't work for you.
ExpressTray simplifies the drive installation process, requiring no tools to remove and install hard drives or SSDs. Attach a drive to the ExpressTray in seconds and remove it just as easily. Simply place the front end of the drive (the side without the connectors) down into the system in the direction of the screws and make sure it's flush with the base of the drawer. Then push the rear end (the side with the connectors) down onto the disc and make sure there is no gap between the disc and the drawer. To remove the disc, simply reverse the process. Pull on the rear tab of the tray to release the disc, then remove it. Our reinforced locking system located on the ExpressTray is extremely durable so you won't have any problems with

This storage bay allows to embed 4 HDD/SDD in a 5 1/4 slot ... perfect to transform an old box into a personal server taking no space (personal openstack server from an intel core i5 10400T / 24 GB of ram).
Practical: the bays occupied by a disk are indicated by a blue LED.
The only 2 small drawbacks that I find for the moment:
- The disks do not have an activity LED
- although they seem solid, the bays are made of plastic; but they are not supposed to be dismantled several times a day so I won't hold it against them
In view of the above comments I have decided to get an extra 40mm Noctua fan. I'll see how the original one performs over time and if it needs to be replaced before its end of life.
Overall this is a good product especially if you are looking for a solution that is easy to assemble and allows you to store up to 4 hard drives that can be hot swapped.
However, there is a lot of plastic, which leaves something to be desired in terms of long-term robustness. And the unfortunate thing is that the fan is included with this cage.
After only 2 months of regular use of the pc (about 8-12h per day) the fan (which is set to low speed by default) is now making a horrible and very annoying noise especially as the rest of the pc is generally quiet.
I've just read the reviews on Amazon to see that the problem with the fan on this cage is recurrent.
So if you really want to buy this product, I recommend you buy a better quality replacement fan to replace the one included with the cage.
I don't usually comment on products because I'm happy with them but this one still deserves a warning.
To be able to alternate W7 and W10 without them interfering with each other.
To lighten the load on the power supply.
To have access to the data disks directly, and to be able to change them between PCs.
This removable drawer has only advantages.
In addition, the disks are easy to install
No heating or excessive noise.
It is quite light, quite a lot of plastic, but it looks good. The mounting system on the racks is quick and easy. No ventilation problems for SSDs. No unnecessary keys that tend to get lost.
