Overview

Define R5: The true definition of silence!

Fractal Design's Define R5 is the next step in the evolution of the acclaimed Define series. Its many cleverly designed features for enthusiasts make it a quiet case ready for a powerful, expandable air or liquid cooling system, built with a stunning Scandinavian-inspired design. Want to expand your system with water cooling or additional fans? You can easily change the layout to suit your new needs!

Enjoy optimal cooling

The Define R5 is the quietest case in the computer world, thanks to the dense, strategically placed ModuVent sound insulation material and the finely tuned Dynamic series fans with covers. The R5 has ample space to accommodate large watercooling systems or 180mm high fans.

It is equipped with the new ModuVent 'tool-free' fan slot covers. The user can install additional fans, or cover the slots for maximum sound insulation. The case comes with two 140mm Fractal Design Dynamic GP14 fans, designed to provide superlative airflow with minimal noise. The three-speed fan control is strategically integrated into the front panel and can support up to three fans.

High-class design and construction

The Fractal Design Define R5 features a rugged design that's engineered to be absolutely silent. The entire case is lined with a highly sound-absorbing material that does not restrict airflow or cooling. A dust cover is installed on the R5. These filters are easily accessible and are located at the front and bottom air intakes.

The front door can be installed with either a right or left hand opening to fit your workspace. This high performance enclosure is available in three colours, black, white and titanium, and is also available in a windowed version. Practical, robust, high-performance and ultra-designed, it will satisfy gamers looking for a top-of-the-range case.

Adaptability: create the machine of your dreams!

The Define R5 was designed withadaptability in mind. Up to 8 hard disks and all modern graphics cards can be placed in the case at will. Two SSD slots are provided behind the motherboard bracket and offer a "tool-free" installation. The HDD/SSD trays are robust and offer security for your drives, while a new, more open design ensures better air circulation.

The hard drive cage system can accommodate up to eight 3.5" or 2.5" drives. It is more adaptable than ever. The user can change the cage layout as desired, with more slots available. The optical drive cage is easily removable to save space inside. Space can be freed up to improve airflow, to change the location of the hard drives or to install additional water cooling components.

    A reference

This case is perfect in every way, it is sober, elegant, practical for me (my computer is on the floor, so the plugs on the top are very appreciated). It's a very nice case with a lot of space inside, you can do whatever you want, the HDD racks can be dismantled in 2 parts to make space if you need it. The whole thing is perfectly soundproofed, I can't hear a thing, it's incredible.
I'm very pleased with the quality of the product and the service. I'm very pleased with the quality of the product and the quality of the service.

    5 Shades of Titanium

Bought during a nice LDLC promotion for 70€, this box made me make an impressive qualitative leap compared to my entry level. The pluses are equally distributed throughout the product, from the materials used to the finish, not to mention the ease of assembly and cable management: you really have to be picky to reproach it with something.

If you really had to find something, it would be its weight (10/11kg, to be taken into account if you intend to carry your PC around in lan or on holiday) and the plastic door which is a bit light and contrasts a bit with the rest of the structure.

I have to say that it has a slot for an optical disk, which was one of my criteria of choice, this type of slot having a tendency to disappear nowadays because of the increasing importance of dematerialized data, but in my case I still had the use of it.

All in all, it's a good investment in the long term, because of its space and its modularity. If you don't mind the monolithic look, it's one of the most complete boxes that covers all your needs.

    Silence and performance

Very satisfied with this enclosure which is spacious, well insulated and of high quality.
    +
    Quality materials
    Screws and bolts included
    Hand screws almost everywhere

    -
The only downside would be the quality of some of the screws and spacers to fix the motherboard.

All in all, very satisfied with a quiet and well-cooled case.

    Perfect

    Very quiet case.
This is the first PC I've put together myself, the ergonomics and workspace in the case makes it very easy and intuitive.
I ordered it during a special offer that put it at 70€, so excellent value for money.

    Superb!

This case replaces my old centurion cooler master which was getting old (8 years). In comparison, the Fractal Design is top of the range: perfect finish, very modular, many screws provided (this is important). The assembly is rather easy but it was quite long (1h30 to 2h) to disassemble, dust and reassemble.
The noise reduction is remarkable, but the comparison is easy as my previous case was very open to ensure good airflow. Much more noticeably, despite the good sound insulation and fewer fans, my components don't get any hotter!
As usual, LDLC service (price and order management) is exemplary.

    Excellent case

Very satisfied with this sober and efficient box.

The cable management allows you to store a maximum of cables at the back of the case.
It also offers a lot of space for hard drives with its two 3"1/2 cages and two 2"1/2 slots at the back. The 5"1/4 cage can also be removed if required.
It also offers a lot of space for fans (of which two quiet ones are included).

It is also worth noting that the opening direction of the front panel door can be easily changed.

    Excellent finish of the case

Paid 69,99€ following a promotion, I didn't hesitate one second, people buy it at 119,95€ so why deprive themselves at this price?

I've been using it for a while now, but it's a good idea to check it out and see if it's still in good condition.

I came from a zalman z11+, very "tuning" and inspiring bad quality.

I am conquered by this box, 2 small defects:
    - When I set the speed of the rheobus to the lowest, the pc goes to safety and turns off immediately.
    - Unreliable door

Top for a silent hdg config

I thought I could install my be quiet Silent Loop 280 watercooling system in my NZXT 530 Source case, but in the end it doesn't fit, either on top it touches my motherboard (Asus Z270 TUF Mark 1) or on the front it just doesn't fit, as it's not possible to remove the 5.25" cages.
So I opted for this case in normal format but completely modular.

The 2 SSD slots on the back are very convenient for me since I removed all the cages (HDD and drives), so I have 2 SSDs on the back and one that is walking around (boo!) waiting to put an NVME SSD directly on the CM instead!

I've got two SSD's on the back and one that is walking around (I'm waiting to put an NVME SSD on the CM instead). As for the assembly, nothing to complain about, it's well done, it's pleasant to handle, disassemble, reassemble, everything goes very well, it ventilates well, and remains silent, even when removing one or two covers to put in the fans.

For comparison, the NZXT 530 Source is a large and very compact tower, at the same time it is very "rough", this Define R5 is very well insulated, so it is quite massive for a normal tower. In the end they are almost the same size, but the R5 is heavier but also quieter, once installed, it will not move anyway!

    spacious and practical

Nice case with a nice finish.

Very spacious and well laid out. The cable management system ensures a clean tower.

The only downside is that the sound insulation causes the temperature to rise by a few degrees. Nothing to worry about.

An excellent box, still not disappointed with Fractal :)

I have owned several of the brand's cases, a Define S and an XL R2, so I can compare quite easily: the case is overall very well finished, the case is heavy and imposing ;)

However, compared to the Define S, I find that the front door looks a bit cheap: simple plastic that twists easily, a bit disappointed on this side, however you can still choose its location (opening on the right or left side), so it's a good point.

I found that the side doors are a bit hard to open and close, the fixing system is different from the define S, which I find a bit unfortunate, when you have to clip the door, only the top side goes through and I have to force the bottom side to clip as well, this will dissuade me from opening my laptop too often :o

Finally, the cable management is greatly facilitated in this case, I could make a very clean build compared to my other cases, so it's a very good point!

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this box, you can say that I got my money's worth, since I got it at the 70€ discount :D
I can only recommend this one ;)
