The success of the S12 design
The NF-S12A is the third generation of straight blade fans from Noctua's successful S12 range, which has won many awards and accolades from the trade press and users around the world.
Anti-stall protrusions
The anti-stall protrusions reduce the flow separation phenomenon that can occur at medium or high resistance. This feature improves the range of operation without stalling.
AAO frame
Noctua's AAO(Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) frames are equipped with anti-vibration mounts and benefit from exclusive optimisations to push the limits of performance and silence.
Stepped Inlet Design
Noctua's Stepped Inlet design adds turbulence to the inlet flow, allowing a gradual transition from laminar to turbulent flow. This reduces noise emissions, generates a more massive flow and increases suction power.
Inner Surface Microstructures
As the blade tips move in a boundary layer influenced by the presence of an Inner Surface Microstructure, the flow separation that takes place at the suction level becomes almost non-existent.
Integrated anti-vibration dampers
The integrated anti-vibration mounts, made of extra soft silicone, limit the transmission of vibrations while ensuring perfect compatibility with standard mounting systems.
Smooth Commutation Drive 2
Noctua's latest SCD system ensures smooth operation by eliminating torque variations and switching noise. As a result, the NF-S12A remains very quiet even at close range.
2-speed control for maximum silence
Allowing 800 or 600rpm speed with the supplied adaptor, the ULN version has been specially designed for quiet enthusiasts who want extremely low operating speeds with minimal noise.
Metal bearings
In order to ensure the highest quality of workmanship, durability and stability, the NF-S12 is equipped with a CNC machined brass bearing.
SSO2 Bearing
This is the latest generation of bearing, which is even more optimised. The SSO2 is equipped with a rear magnet closer to the shaft for greater precision, durability and stability.
Extended wiring options
The first fan cable is a short 20cm cable to minimise the space required for routine use. The supplied 30cm extension cable will solve any distance problems.
6-year manufacturer's warranty
Noctua fans are renowned for their high quality and long service life. As with all Noctua models, the NF-S12A has an MTBF of over 150,000 hours of testing and is backed by a full 6 year manufacturer's warranty.

I bought 3 of these models to replace the fans in my PC11ART tower bought on LDLC.
The original fans made the noise of an aeroplane engine as it took off, but these noctua fans ensure almost perfect silence, with a slight murmur audible when it's completely quiet.
As for the cooling, no worries, they do the job perfectly.
What's more, I was able to fit them in without any problem, despite the anti-vibration lugs.
Expensive but well supplied bundle, very quiet and more than correct airflow for 800rpm. Took it as a replacement for an Antec NE700G ZEN EC power supply bought here brand new a week ago, supposed to be silent but which makes a noise not possible and whistles... So again, a good point for Noctua, a bad one for Antec, and another bad one for LDLC because you can't comment on their items if you've had them mounted in a configuration by them.
The best performance and silence ever. I would definitely buy it again, in 20 years when it's at the end of its life maybe...
That said, to install it you have to force rubber rods through the holes.
For this to work I had to :
- cut part of the rubber rod collars that clip on the holes
- make room in the case to have a good grip on these rods, and pull like a brute so that they go through and clip correctly.
It's a bit of a pain but once it's done you're good to go until the next time you change the case.
Another thing, there are two bonus cables in the box. An extension cable, and a cable that allows to have less RPM. If the fan voltage is not 100%, this last cable will make the fan stall because it will turn too slowly. This is normal for any fan, but you need to be aware of it.
The price is not cheap, but when you see all the accessories and the presentation, the price remains reasonable.
