The male and female connectors on the extension cable are compatible. I had received a so-called USB extension cable from a supplier other than LDLC where the 2 plugs were not the same format, which I call an adapter and not an extension cable, and I returned the product.
No problem here, everything is as described, and I was able to reach my motherboard socket to plug into a large tower.
For connecting to a bay that is a little too far away or because you want to run cables more cleanly, it will plug into one of the USB 2 headers on your motherboard or internal hub and run to your front panel cable or other.
Be careful not to have too much cable length, otherwise you risk losing data or the ports will not work properly (maximum recommended length is about 1 meter)
