What an image ... but what an interface!

Bought to replace a 'fake' 4K that only did upscaling, this Sony model is a real joy in terms of image quality. Complemented by a Pioneer home cinema amplifier supporting Dolby Atmos, watching films encoded in this format is a feast for the eyes and ears.
The player is also DLNA compliant and will play your HD and UHD sources (mkv container though, old avi's even HD won't play for me).
But, and this is the big BUT, the interface is really shabby. Well, shabby, it all depends: if you're nostalgic for the MO5 and Minitel, then it's all good! It's still functional, but frankly, for 4k equipment, you'd expect something else (bearing in mind that the firmware is up to date and that Sony hasn't released any new firmware since 31/05/22).

A good product, but not free of faults that should be taken into account before purchase.

        My plus points :
        - very good picture quality with 1080p and 720p. Powerful upscaling.
        - excellent picture quality in 2160p.
        - excellent audio quality.

        Minuses that concern me:
        - A single USB input on the front with a "floating" hatch. Frankly, there was room for improvement!
        - Really rotten OSD menu... No way of modifying the display of folders and files on external media.
        - No Go To function.... If you stop a film, switch off the device and if you switch on and restart the film, it starts again from the beginning...
        - No Dolby Digital Plus decoding. Seriously Sony, what is your problem?

In short, it's still a very good product, very sturdy, very well finished, but you have to be able to overlook the minuses.

LDLC is always top notch when it comes to delivery times and packaging!

Outstanding image very improvable interface no optical output

I was looking for a device to replace my old LG, with wired network, DLNA client and separate digital audio output. There are not that many of them at the moment (March 2022).
        The pluses:
I was looking for a device to replace my old LG, with wired network, DLNA client and separate digital audio output. There aren't that many of them at the moment (March 2022).
        The pluses:
The 4K image is sublime and the processing algorithms do a remarkable job. The sound is very clear, even in coaxial compressed output. Nothing to say about that.
Installation: super fast, less than 2 minutes to set up everything including the wired network. Great.
        The - :
        - No front panel display for 350€, which means you have to turn on the TV to play a simple CD. They say it's not to get in the way, but it would be enough to have a display that you can turn off.
        - The interface of the DLNA client is terrible. Very big display, you have to scroll through everything, the directories are displayed among the files... yuck and yuck again!
        - shipping: very poorly packaged by LDLC. bubble wrap on one side, cardboard and player box punctured on the other side until the top of the player fortunately not too affected.

*** Big point to watch out for! ***
Contrary to what we read in the questions and answers there is NO optical output! Beware of old amplifiers without HDMI audio input! Fortunately there is a digital coaxial sound output which saves me the amp (I have an old but excellent 5.1 amp).

        Blue ray player

I received it very quickly and put it on just as quickly. I don't regret my choice, having the klipsch 1200 atmos soundbar, I enjoy watching a good movie.having dolby atmos, this player does the job. Super definition hdr, great sound. A reasonable price for the performance.

        SONY Blu-Ray player

I have a rather special installation:
the HDMI video output is connected to a CHRISTIE HD projector
the audio output (in digital) is connected to a ROTTEL pre-amp (the HITACHI 6500 power amp)
the performance of the SONY player is revealed, with a high definition image, and a cinema-like sound
what more could you ask for, a 5.1 type audio equipment ? in the future maybe ...
here is, the happiness is possible

        UHD

First of all this player has a sober design and has a separate element format without plastic effect.
The dual output picture and separate sound is a real asset as I have an older home cinema amplifier that does not support UHD video or 3D on these HDMI inputs and I can still enjoy DTS HD Master and other formats.
The image is really breathtaking in 4K and HDR, I rediscover my blu ray with this player.
The loading time is fast, the menu is simple, there is no lighting on the front panel which could be annoying and no audible noise.

I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with the promotional offer from Sony, which normally allows you to receive the movie Bohemian Rhapsody in 4K for free. I was refused because according to Sony, LDLC is not part of the shops participating in the operation, even if the promotional leaflet was inside.
If someone from LDLC can convince Sony...

As always, thank you LDLC for the fast delivery and the quality of the packaging.
