It works perfectly for me, the result is very good.
Background: I use it to digitise video 8s via a SONY Handycam camcorder (TR617E). On my MacBook M2, with a USB-C adapter. You need to download the Elgato Video Capture software from their site.
Great product, I was able to digitise all my VHS tapes.

It works very well as long as you have a usb 2 port. As recent computers do not have a usb 2 port anymore, I had to buy a usb 3/usb 2 adapter for 16 € to make it work. Now it works very well and I can digitise my old VHS.
Warning setting to be expected on Windows 10 see below!!!
"In the Windows 10 search bar, type privacy and click on Privacy Settings
In the left sidebar click on Camera
Enable the Allow apps to access your camera option"
After this modification no worries, super easy to use!!!
The device does not recognise my camcorder, so I cannot use it.
No information was given beforehand about compatibility or incompatibility with certain devices.
The video capture software is very easy to use and the quality is top notch. I had bought another device of the same kind and it was mediocre... It's great.
I rated it a 10 because it is the only key that gives a very good vhs transfer.
I have tried several and not disappointed at all.
Easy to set up on the site and works great with W10.
Once you have calibrated the light, contrast, colour etc in the software interface, you just run it and everything is reproduced at VHS quality, with no jumps or other disturbing elements on the image.
Just to make it perfect, crop the image in video software to remove the head switching at the bottom of the image.

If the selection "Auto" of the VHS encoding is not effective, it is necessary to force the good encoding in the file (under Windows 10) C:\Users\mon_nom_utilisateur\AppData\Roaming\Elgato\VideoCapture\settings.xml:
In the "TVFormat Auto /TVFormat" line, replace Auto with PAL, NTSC, SECAM, PAL60, PAL-M or PAL-N. (A setting via a software menu would be appreciated...)
Run the VHS before starting the recording to get the synchronisation (otherwise, no sound).
