The RX 7900 GRE is great for its price, I can no longer use FPS as an excuse for my lack of skill?
This 7900 GRE was bought to replace a 5700XT that was beginning to struggle on certain titles. I should point out that I play at 60 fps, no more and no less.
Overall, the 7900 GRE will run 1440p games without a hitch and will even be able to go 4k on quite a few titles without having to sacrifice fluidity or graphics parameters (shadows, textures, density, etc.).
As far as heating is concerned, without having carried out any ventilation curves or other settings, the card runs at around 70° and 80/85° on the hot-spot for demanding games in high 4K, which is fine.
In games, the card doesn't let itself be heard very much. The fans are not noisy. No coil whine either on the titles tested. No suspicious noises.
No in-game crashes either, and the driver is spot on.
The card is well put together, quite high quality and solid.
Useful note: it's a nice little block. So, although a stand is supplied, I'd recommend investing in a small additional stand to support the card and relieve the strain on the motherboard port. At the price of the card, adding a few extra euros to secure the whole thing is not a bad investment.
In short, the price/performance ratio (bought on special offer) is satisfactory.
I'm playing at 3440x1440 (21:9) and previously had a Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+ SE.
All this is coupled with an Asus Tuf x670e motherboard, 32 Gb DDR5 RAM (2x16 with EXPO enabled), and a Ryzen 7 7800x3D. So the graphics card was the last part to be changed.
The difference with the old card was obvious. I couldn't play The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition, for example, I couldn't get past 20 fps on either low or ultra. With the Sapphire RX 7900 GRE NITRO+ I'm getting over 75 fps in ultra, and 115 fps with FSR activated in quality mode.
Here are my games of the moment:
Helldivers II: ~57 fps in ultra, ~80 fps in quality fsr
Resident Evil 2: 80 fps all ultra + Ray Tracing at max without FSR
The Witcher 3: ~55 fps in ultra with Ray Tracing at max with quality FSR, 95 fps in ultra with TAAU without RT, and 110 fps with quality FSR2
Cyberpunk 2077: ~87 fps in ultra with FSR Quality, 34 in FSR Quality with RT Psycho, and 70 in ultra without FSR
Control: 100 fps in ultra, ~60 fps with RT at max
Dead Space: ~80 fps in ultra + RT
Alan Wake II: ~70 fps at full speed without RT, 120 with Quality FSR, ~62 fps Quality FSR + high RT without path tracing.
This is more than decent performance, I wasn't expecting any worse with RT.
For rasterisation, it runs everything at ultra speed, no questions asked.
The card is silent, even with big games, there's no coil whine, and it doesn't heat up more than that.
So I'm completely satisfied with my purchase, and what's more, delivery was ultra-fast (I placed my order on a Sunday and received it on Tuesday at noon).
