I use this device as a docking station for a laptop. It can be powered by a charger plugged into the female USB-C socket, and it transmits power to the computer via its male USB-C socket. The various sockets (Ethernet, USB, HDMI) are recognised by the computer without any special settings.
- The build quality is very average. The plastic parts are badly deburred.
- The hub heats up enormously, and is much hotter than my Mac laptop.
- You need an oversized power supply to use the pass through. With the 30W charger on my Mac, frequent disconnections are noticeable. With a 65W charger, this is no longer a problem, but my PC using this charger can't use the hub without frequent disconnections from peripherals (an HDMI screen, a phone on a USB-A port).
- The SD and micro SD ports don't work all the time. If you unplug certain ports from the hub, the card will eventually appear, but it's a bit hit and miss.
I didn't test the speed of the various ports.
Basically it's relatively small, it's not the most expensive but you can't expect good quality. I'll have to wait and see, but it's highly likely that it won't last very long.
The product arrived very quickly, when I connected it to my configuration it was impossible to detect external storage. On turnkey laptops, no problem. LDLC support then referred me to another product with a USB-A 3.0 socket.
