Always faithful to the ASUS brand.
This model is good value for money, it does the job.
Nothing to say about the LDLC service, always good and faithful too.
The "ASUS F17-TUF706HF-HX014" laptop is as expected and as described by LDLC.
It's a good compromise for me, a second PC (in addition to the desktop PC) that I can take everywhere. Good overall performance, good quality screen for photo editing, 17" is a good size. Basically, it's comfortable to use, and for my purposes, it's more than enough. Also worth noting is the high-performance cooling system.
I give this note because I received my order in 2 days and a half despite the distance (Ordered Tuesday evening in Guadeloupe and received Friday morning of the same week).
Thank you for your diligent work!
Perfect!
I have nothing to complain about!
I use it for office work and to run virtual machines for mock-ups. It performs very well and is not very noisy (except under heavy load, but that's normal). I'm planning to expand the memory and add a disk in the near future.
I give 5 stars because very satisfied with the product and service offered by LDLC ordered was processed quickly and delivery impeccable thank you ????
Purchased a few months ago.
The plus :
- Fast and clean delivery.
- The fact that it's OS free is a plus (cheaper and customisable) Window 10 licence (legit eh!) found for 1.5€ on Aliexpre... another resale site. So, it's OK!
- Pretty light
- Quiet (I think).
- The RTX technology is really cool!
One star less:
-The 500GB is a bit small for my taste, but hey... at today's SSD prices ...
- The look is a bit cheap
- Lack of USB ports
I'm not sure:
I use it for gaming and CAD and I think the hardware is really good for the price.
Very good value for money for those who don't want to bother with tuning.
On other sales sites, some people say that they have trouble running their games. So... that was the case for me at first.
A little tip: in the Nvidia panel, don't forget to set the PhysX parameters on the Nvidia processor (which isn't necessarily the case by default) and then everything will be fine.
We recently bought this model as a gift for a member of my family.
I chose it because it's one of the rare 17" models sold without an OS, on which I wanted to install Linux, which he already knows.
In the end, this laptop runs well on Ubuntu (version 22.04 LTS), with some adjustments and specific use.
This machine is used by a person who doesn't play games, mainly for multimedia (streaming, music), classic Internet browsing and office work. In this case, it does the job very well.
You just need to be aware of the following points.
Avoid activating proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Keep the Nouveau free driver, which works well for this graphics card. My attempts to activate the proprietary NVIDIA driver were unsuccessful, forcing me to reinstall the OS.
Use Wayland (default choice) and not X.Org, which sometimes crashes.
Keyboard brightness can be adjusted using the shortcut FN+arrow (up or down). By default, the colour is not adjustable and it alternates constantly, which can be annoying, so you might as well disable the backlighting completely via the keyboard shortcut in question. The system will remember this on restart. In the future, it should be possible to use the backlight while setting the colour with the asusctl utility available here: https://gitlab.com/asus-linux/asusctl
This is normally already possible from Ubuntu 23.04, which offers the necessary Linux kernel branch 6. I just haven't had a chance to test it on this machine yet.
Finally, fan control is possible, as explained here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1254364/how-to-control-fans-on-an-asus-laptop
However, you don't necessarily need to make these settings on the command line, just choose the right level of energy saving in the system settings. It all boils down to the same thing.
A computer bought without an OS to install Ubuntu (23.04 to have a recent kernel), which went without a hitch: all the hardware is recognised during installation (tick the "install proprietary drivers" box when the time comes so that the nvidia driver is installed, which will force Ubuntu's graphics system to run on X rather than Wayland).
The backlight can be switched on or off using the arrow keys, but not configured: for that, you need to install software. I installed a stable version of Aurora (see on Github).
Note that the USB-C port, which is DisplayPort compatible, is Thunderbolt 4 compliant (recognised by Ubuntu).
The big difference in price compared with the Windows 11 version (nearly €300) was a decisive factor in my purchase.
Steam runs perfectly on it, even though I don't use any particularly demanding games.
Fast delivery (less than a week).
I'll add to this review once I've been using the machine for longer.
Very good computer:
- Good performance
- The screen is flawless
- 50-60 FPS under cyberpunk for a basic RTX
- Very nice touchpad
A few things to note:
- Keyboard identifies as a tinsel, but you can change that once the OS is installed
- OS to install yourself, process that requires drivers to see the disk, very easy to find on the net (for windows 10 and 11)
- the bottom cover to install RAM and extra NVMe is a bit difficult to remove, use plastic/teflon tools to avoid damaging it and/or breaking the ergos.
- Difficult to find pictures on the internet to know how to remove the cover (not rocket science though)
- No manual available online in French
