Difficult to install!
I bought this router to replace a previous Netgear nighthawk router which didn't want to know anything more without saying why, after a contact with the LDLC technical service.
Delivered almost immediately (the positive point, as always at LDLC). But then the installation.... catastrophic! The Netgear Orbi software, which is supposed to ensure a trouble-free installation, is in fact a vile piece of crap:
1°) First of all, you are asked to flash the QR code on the router, which should guarantee you that everything will go smoothly. You bet! result: "QR code not valid" (and I didn't make only one try, you can believe me)
2°) we scrupulously follow, step by step, the instructions in the manual (in English: the only French text accompanying the device refers to the precautions to be taken when using batteries - batteries!) Nothing to do: the router, although detected in WiFI on the iPhone, is not recognised by the software, which asks you to go back to the phone's settings to connect to the router's network (but, you idiot, since I'm telling you I've already been there for a long time!)
3°) Although detected by the iPhone, it's impossible to connect to the Internet: Safari finds that the router's certificate is dubious and therefore won't go any further
4°) Finally, we drop the Orbi software, we force the browser to go beyond its hesitations and we end up being able to surf the Net - at our own risk, Safari tells us
5°) we then find ourselves with 2 WiFI networks: the Livebox's and an "Orbi 22", which seems to be doing the job, i.e. allowing a WiFi connection from my office, which was not receiving the Livebox's network.
I'm not at all sure that this was the expected result (the previous Nighthawk didn't change the name of the network, which was simply extended to all rooms - while it was working, of course)
We'll see in practice...
