Well advised by the shop's advisor, I ordered this printer with an ink tank to replace the previous one with toners: for me, an ecological gesture. And the icing on the cake, 48-hour delivery after ordering.
I've previously had 3 TS 705s and 4 print heads... it's very expensive.
You're paying the true price of the printer because it's not subsidised by the price of the cartridges, which for the T.S 705 far exceeds the price of the printer! What's more, on volume, ink is not expensive even if it's not yet at its true price... Dual printheads: one for black, the other for three colours (CMY) and the quality of the sponges contained in the cartridges doesn't come into play as there are no more cartridges, so the printhead problems should be solved as well as the incessant purging of the nozzles on the TS 705 which empties a set of cartridges for just a few pages of printing.
I've had Canon printers for over 20 years, including an A3 (iX 4000) for over 15 years, and it's never had a single problem: sometimes 10 A3 prints, then a year with nothing, then a black and white page of text... A quick purge at the start of the cycle and that's it; and it's worked perfectly for 15 years! where's the progress?
The printer does the job well, once set up (installation is a bit tedious, but the instructions are clear)
The Plus :
- The tanks are just great, you can see them going down as you print, and a bottle later, there you go again!
- The prints are clean
- The network alarm clock works
- Very good colour quality
The Minuses:
- When you come from a laser printer, the first page seems a bit slow
- Make sure you place the printer on a wobbly piece of furniture, it will move a lot and make more noise.
Two computers at home, mine under UBUNTU, the one of the lady, under Windows, I did not meet any problem, once the link made between the modem and the printer. On the other hand, the printer is more capricious under Windows.
I was looking for a printer to print mainly photos, and it does that very well. I find the photo print quality very good, although I haven't managed to do all the settings yet. I think the photo paper used must play on the colour somehow.
I print a very large number of photos each month, so the lack of a cartridge works well for me. I have barely started the ink supplied.
This is a printer that requires patience, both in installation and printing. It takes its time. Find your own, it's worth it.
As for the lack of a scanner, as I said, I was looking to print photos, so it doesn't bother me. My smartphone is more than enough for the 3 scans I have to do per year.
I can use this printer very well with iOS, either on iPhone or iPad, and my partner has no problem with wifi printing on his PC.
