Overview

Pi 4: even more possibilities!

The latest addition to the Raspberry Pi range of motherboards, the Raspberry Pi 4 is recognisable not only by its shape and size but also by the significant progress made by the foundation on this new model. It features a new processor, more modern connectivity than the previous generation and improved multimedia performance. Suitable for today's novice (and more experienced) hobbyists, this little card offers an even smoother, more energy-efficient experience, all for a price that's as small as ever!

Your new desktop computer

Quiet, energy-efficient and powerful, this Raspberry Pi 4 offers a complete and enjoyable desktop experience. Whether you're editing documents, browsing the web or manipulating spreadsheets in a multi-display configuration at resolutions up to 4K, this model has nothing to envy to the performance of an entry-level PC.

A nice upgrade

Featuring a more powerful SoC with 64-bit support, the Raspberry Pi 4 is three times more powerful than its predecessor. This means that Mini PC enthusiasts, home automation solutions and emulator enthusiasts can have a field day and venture into more complex and resource-intensive projects. It's a great way to gain speed and power. It's definitely got it all!

More modern connectivity

The rest of the components and connectors have also been upgraded to adapt to new uses and provide more flexibility. On the menu: the ability to manage up to two screens in 4K at 60 fps, up to 8GB of DDR4 RAM, improved USB capacity with the addition of two USB 3.0 ports that can transfer data twice as fast (up to 5 Gb/s), as well as better wireless connectivity with the arrival of Bluetooth 5.0.

    Excellent

Ordered to replace my old Raspberry PI 1 which was running out of steam.
No problems directly related to the Raspberry. However, the use of a microSD card caused me a problem: badly inserted in the raspberry's slot, it slipped out of my hands and went inside the case..... I had to dismantle everything to recover it.
As far as performance is concerned, I didn't test the dual screen, nor the 4K, but the 1980p videos and the Linux desktops have an excellent rendering.
The 2GB is enough to run everything (raspbian and KODI). The performance of the 4 core processor is much better than my old PI1 (1 core), it's night and day.
I use POE with a splitter (not the HAT POE) and no problem.
I'm not sure if it's easy to implement, but it really lacks a real switch to cut/restore the power, or at least a reset.
Indeed, when you shut down the system (recommended to avoid corrupting the SD card by an electrical shutdown), there is no other way to restart it than to unplug/plug the power supply (which is not good for the connector, in the long run).
