Cable irreplaceable if faulty
The headphones themselves are pretty good value for money for anyone looking for wide, accurate spatialisation, typically for localising footsteps in FPS games, for example. Musically, it's average.
Unfortunately, when I got my feet caught in the cable, the 3.5mm jack plug broke.
The cable is fixed, so it's irreplaceable. I tried to re-solder the cable myself with a new 3.5mm connector, but the wires are so small that it's impossible to do a proper soldering job. The headphones are easy to dismantle, so it would also have been possible to re-solder directly onto the headphones by completely replacing the cable, except that Audiotechnica France doesn't have a replacement solder cable for this model. Nor do they offer a maintenance service to replace it. The HiFi repairer near me told me that he doesn't solder this type of cable himself, as it's too thin, fragile and complicated. So I don't have a solution for repairing these headphones, and all I have to do is change the wire. It's a waste of money.
It's time for manufacturers and electronics retailers to take responsibility and stop offering their customers things that can't be repaired. It's absurd in 2023.
Don't buy a headset that doesn't have a fully detachable cable, because if it breaks, it's garbage. Do yourself a favour. This kind of thing is disposable. At this price, it's starting to look sad.
I've since switched to Sennheiser, with a detachable cable on the model I chose.
