Overview

Stability for everyone with the Sony a7K!

The SonyAlpha 7 II is the world's first full-frame camera with 5-axis image stabilisation. Experience full-frame perfection and stability in a camera that fits in your hand. Shoot professional quality photos at 24.3 megapixels. Be responsive and precise with the fast hybrid focus and high-resolution OLED viewfinder.

Take your creativity to the next level, wherever you are with the 35mm full-frame interchangeable lens camera.

Powerful image quality with 24.3 MP

Thanks to the full-frame 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor with 24.3 Megapixels, you can really express your creativity. Create beautiful soft focus effects. Capture beautiful, realistic detail even in low light. Bring every colour and hue to life with an ISO sensitivity range of 100 to 51200.

In photography, small details really do make a difference. The advanced BIONZ X high-speed image processing engine ensures that every aspect of the scene is faithfully reproduced, even when using a deep focal length and a very high pixel count.

Hybrid autofocus

Fast hybrid focus lets you get the most out of the full frame sensor. Get a sharp subject quickly, and capture up to 5 frames per second in a burst. With the Tru-Finder OLED viewfinder, you get an accurate, high-contrast, high-resolution view of the scene you're shooting.

When your subject is moving fast, you can capture that decisive moment with crisp, well-exposed image quality via 5fps continuous AF/AE shooting. A vastly improved algorithm accurately predicts subject movement so you can keep track of your subject at all times, even in continuous shooting.

Freedom in the palm of your hand

With its extremely compact dimensions, the a7 II camera incorporates powerful movie-making features. You can create breathtaking, visually and audibly stunning movies with superb background blur, remarkably clear detail and sensitivity to make dark scenes more vivid. Features such as Picture Profile and P/A/S/M modes give you even more creative options.

Area Noise Reduction divides the image into areas based on patterns (e.g., edges, textures, and even flat areas such as blue sky), then applies the most appropriate values to each area to visibly reduce noise and achieve a new level of clarity.

    Switching to full size.

Having owned a micro 4/3 camera for a couple of years, I wanted to test the transition from a small sensor to a large one.
My last toy, a Panasonic GX8, did everything I expected of it: speed, precision and comfort of use.
By switching to a full frame, I expected to remain comfortable and to be able to gain in quality without forcing too much.
I was wrong: the full format imposes a rigour in its composites, an exemplary management of the depth of field at the largest apertures and the slightest defects appear like the nose in the middle of the face...
No "Wow" effect as I expected, but rather a good lesson in photography and a review of its practice. In short, nothing to do with the camera itself but I think this precision has the merit to warn future buyers who want a bigger sensor.

The camera is quite heavy and its size is surprising for those who were smaller before. The grip is however excellent for me with small hands.
The viewfinder is much less comfortable than my old camera, less bright, less defined, less fields. :-/
The battery lasts a good 500 shots, instead of the 350 given by the testers.

What I like about this camera :
+ It takes up less space than a full frame SLR
    + Its stabilized sensor
+ The dynamic range of the sensor and the accuracy of the colours
    + The very clear menus
+ The very nice rear screen (although not touch sensitive).
+ The SD card door separated from the battery door (thanks !)

    What I don't like :
    - The speed (power on, burst, latency) is much less than a GX8
    - Sony's meanness in not supplying a battery charger
    - The perfectible autonomy of the battery
    - The viewfinder is not worthy of a camera of this range.

In the end, I would have given it 5 stars, but the viewfinder is really a disadvantage compared to the top of the range Panasonic camera...
