For quick access to 2.5' drives without having to install them in a tower or with a laptop, this thing is perfect.
However, it is not possible to connect 3.5' drives for power reasons (the USB bus does not deliver enough power for the motors of a 3.5' drive) and connecting an external power supply will not work.
But if you only have 2.5' drives this product will do the job perfectly.
Used to transfer data between two drives, this adapter worked with a CRUCIAL 500GB SSD and an (old) 2.5" mechanical drive.
This can only be properly used for a laptop on a table, on which the SSD connected to the cable will also rest.
If it's for a tower, you'll have to provide a support (a pile of books, in my case...), or decide to leave it hanging!
I'm using a very small adapter, very short cable (15cm), but I'm using a USB 3.0 extension cable bought at LDLC a while ago... a while ago. It's small, so it's easy to store. It's just what I wanted, we connect the HDD and it's off for a few hours of transferring old disks. Tested under Linux Mint 19.1, no problem. Linux never asks questions, it accepts everyone.
The socket lights up a nice blue (there is energy), there is another blue LED on the connector that attests to the activity of the HDD. To stop, you remove the media under Nemo, 10s and the disk stops, you just have to unplug, USB first (always under power) and then the disk.
Meets my expectations. Does the job. We'll see how long it lasts.
Very good value for money
I've been using it for a while now, but it's a good idea to have it in the mail.
LDLC is great as always, but the transport.... when you choose the chronopost option with an appointment and ask for the time slot 19-21 hours to be sure to be present you expect to be delivered during this time slot and not at 14 hours as it was the case. Fortunately I had not left yet.
It's all in the title. I use it to connect an old SSD to my laptop and it works perfectly.
Small, cheap and useful SATA/USB cable.
Having bought a total of 3 SSD 860 EVO drives and 3 Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5Tb drives (Red-Blue-Black) I used it to do DD/SSD transfers with GParted.
Now I use it to connect the old DD disks that I use for backup.
Whether on Linux or Windows, DD or SSD disks are perfectly recognized.
Very useful to copy a bit by bit drive (a ghost) to a new SSD drive which becomes the new drive. Nothing to reinstall.
