The 12 GB and the 4th fan that goes 1cm under the RAM of my Z390 motherboard (to be checked) is a good plan.
So yes the power is there, all my games run at 1440p 100-144 fps details at max except cyberpunk at 60-70 fps with ray tracing and dlss. But the card heats up way too much with the factory settings [80 degrees+ with throtlling]. I had to undervolve the gpu and turn the fans up to 65% to keep the heat down to 76 degrees max, and the fans get along fine even with the headset. At the same time it's the cheapest of the rtx 3080 12gb's so you shouldn't have expected the best performance.
I've been playing in Vr since I got the graphics card and I haven't had any problems with it overheating despite a very demanding game (assetto corsa competizione) even after a session of almost 5 hours. Yes I know I've abused it.
The fans on this card don't turn on until the GPU temperature hits about 50°C, but when they do come on , even to 30%, you can really hear them. Maybe it's because the rest of my system is quite silent because I normally watercool so I'm used to it being very quiet.
Also, with the extra 4th fan the GPU wouldn't fit into the slot because the fan was hitting the memory sticks, I had to cut away a portion of the fan to make it fit.
But I've since got a waterblock for the GPU so now all is well, and it's totally silent again. Although I also had to dremel a wider hole on the "reference" waterblock to get it to fit, because of the large RGB header on the card. But that's because the card wasn't on the EK compatibility list for EK waterblocks, but I still bought the waterblock, so that was my own mistake.
Besides that the card itself has been great,
