Overview

The ultimate, no-compromise VR headset

Developed in collaboration with Valve (Steam) and Microsoft, the HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset delivers an ultra-immersive VR experience for gaming, design, development and training. With high-end sound and image components, it is one of the most advanced Virtual Reality solutions on the market. With its ultra-comfortable design, enhanced tracking and controllers, and compatibility with most VR eco-systems on the market, it offers the best visual and spatial audio quality in its class. Simply put, it's the best.

Optimal VR experience

New Valve lenses provide sharper visual quality, exceptional image clarity with full RGB and 2 x 2160 LCD screens (one for each eye). With a 114 degree field of view, the HP Reverb G2 provides more peripheral detail. Architects can now see the texture or grain of leather for the first time, users can see and read text more clearly than ever before. Valve speakers deliver the highest quality VR audio built into the headset so users can enjoy a natural immersive experience.

Ultimate comfort

Small and lightweight, the Reverb G2 is almost invisible when worn.

  • Optical adjustments are simple and allow the user to adjust the width of the lenses to their eyes for optimal comfort regardless of facial structure.
  • The face mask is adaptable to all faces (the cushion size has been increased so that the weight is distributed more evenly for ultimate comfort; also incorporating a flex to the face mask for a custom fit).
  • The speakers are easily positioned 10mm from the ear for perfect comfort and freedom of movement.

Improved tracking

Improved tracking is made possible by 4 cameras (previously 2). 90% of possible arm movements (previously 65%) can be tracked. The integrated cameras offer 6 degrees of freedom without the need for external sensors or additional accessories. The integrated Bluetooth connection to the helmet allows for better tracking of controller performance, longer battery life and easier operation. For the controllers (included depending on the model), a new button layout matches industry standards for better application and game compatibility.

SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality compatible

The HP Reverb G2 is compatible with the SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality virtual reality ecosystems. With the SteamVR application, the Internet's most extensive library of VR content is now at your fingertips. With WinMR support, the headset is ready to use with the latest versions of Windows, allowing for quick, easy, and enhanced setup.

Very good, but the installation is a real pain

The installation is a real pain. The installation diagram is not very readable, the DP plug of the headset has to be force-fitted, otherwise nothing happens. Once everything is plugged in, the installation software (Windows Mixed Reality Portal) automatically launches and configures the system. You think that all you have to do is play your favourite game? Big mistake. All you get is a pink screen with a diamond in the middle. You still have to press "Windows -Y" (which is not indicated anywhere...) and then look at the diamond to get it to start working....But if you get to the end of the process, then you will get your reward. With MSFS 2020 you really are like a real pilot in a real plane. A true marvel.

Still a long way to go

Positive points: Excellent display definition, it's as sharp as a full HD screen, it's bluffing, the headset is comfortable and the sound is correct.Negative point (rdhibitory); the zone of sharpness is centred on the eyes, the periphery is blurred (unreadable) and forces repeated head movements which drive you crazy. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get a better view of the screen, but I'm sure I'll be able to get a better view of the screen, so I'll be able to get a better view of the screen and the camera.

    A pity!

If turning your head like a robot doesn't bother you then this headset may be for you, but don't expect to be able to move your eyes around in it as only 10 of the lens is sharp, the rest is just a blurred mess. It's a shame because this headset had everything to be close to perfect but unfortunately the sweet spot is too small and it ruins everything else, hopefully the g3 will be able to correct the problem and maybe we'll have (finally) a near perfect headset!

Broken after one week of use.

I can't see myself not leaving a review of this headset. It is clear that the resolution is clean and the wow effect is definitely present. But to get to the heart of the matter, the helmet is clearly not solid at the level of the frame. Everything cracks and after a week the helmet does not turn on anymore. So the adventure is already over for me. But the helmet you pay a lot of money for. I'm not sure if I'll get another one under warranty. Not worth the price, full stop.

    Compliant

    Hello here,

I have received the headset on time, with no problems or failures so far.

    LDLC at the TOP.

The headset is incredible (comfort, sharpness...). Everything is good in this headset.
I clearly do not regret my purchase.

    Woahhh

So to start with, I use VR only for simracing (iRacing used in 100% resolution in steamVR)

The resolution is insane compared to an index, the distant vision is so much sharper, close up too I reassure you, when I find myself in battle with a car at my side, everything is incredibly detailed.
The clarity when looking at the centre is incomparable with what I have tried but (because there are negative points too) the sweetspot is clearly not as good as on an index.
For example in iRacing, when I want to check the black box (time info, etc) when I direct my eyes towards it, there is a slight blur that I did not have on the index. It's still readable, but I would have loved to have that crazy clarity a little further out.

Another problem for me is that it's a shame that this headset isn't SteamVR native since it was more or less made in collaboration with Valve because the WMR layer is more annoying than anything else

As for comfort, the headset is quite light but the strap is a bit more cheap than the index finger, but it's still ok once you put it on your head.
The audio is fine for me, however, it would be nice to be able to lower the headphones a bit more.

I've owned quite a few headphones and every time I've had a blast.
From the Vive to the Vive Pro/Index, I thought WOAHHH
and when I went from the Index to this one, RE WOAAHHH.

Out of curiosity I ran the Index again and I thought it couldn't possibly be so pixelated... (even with the supersampling set to 180%)

It's important to take into account that the 100% native resolution in SteamVR is 3160x3096 per eye so you need a big machine to run it, for my part I'm in i7 10700k 32GB, RTX3090

So yes it's a shame about the sweetspot being a bit too small and the fact that you have to use WMR but otherwise it's great.

    Well...

Product ordered on the 23rd, received the next day, before Christmas. Well done LDLC.
Having had the HP WMR headset first in 2017 which launched Windows Reality Mixed in Windows 10, the Oculus Rift the following year. The Oculus gave the HP a run for its money with the tracking system and the display quality being far superior. I was excited when the high resolution G2 was announced (2160 by 4320). The HP received this morning, I unpacked, plugged it in and, what.... disappointment!!! Ok, it's defined. It is possible to read text cleanly. The image is very bright and the colours are vibrant. The bottom line is that, despite the resolution, it's clean but you can still make out the matrix. Horizontal scan bands spoil everything. Then there's the comfort of the headset. It is light, but unbearable after 20 minutes. The part with the foam is too narrow. It compresses the face. The sound is ok but I prefer the Oculus Rift one. Another thing, the FOV. It is given at 112°. Where are they? Compared to the first HP of 2017, nothing new. Always this hublo effect that spoils everything.
To summarize, I remain on my hunger and the more than 600€ are not justified. I did not have the whuaou effect that I had with the Oculus.
