Very bright
Very bright projector! Rather suitable for grey canvas to increase the contrast. It is rather quiet, but it remains a video projector. The noise of its three side fans is similar to a desktop PC that blows well. It is audible in silence, but immediately masked when there is sound. Everything works well, there are many settings. I haven't tested 3D. HDR works perfectly. No judder problems, like on a 60Hz TV. The 33ms of latency allows to play casual games. I felt some ACS when I increased the contrast, but I went back to the original settings which are very good. Image and sharpness are perfect, contrast is good but it depends a lot on the light pollution and the screen. With a grey canvas and a dark room, the contrast is perfect. The colorimetry is a bit subjective, but the menus allow a very fine adjustment. The optical zoom is very useful for fine-tuning the installation. The trapezoidal corrections being digital, I do not use them in order to keep the full potential of the chip. There is a very slight thin black frame around the video, invisible on black bands. Overall the product is robust and rather large. I hope the laser, RGB wheel, and DLP chip can deliver on their promise of longevity. I had hesitated with the Xiaomi Mijia ALPD3.0 with long focal length. But I trust Optoma more for their experience in the field.
I took one star off because I would have appreciated the IP6X certification of the HZ403 as well as the DuraCore product warranty. I hope that this model will not be penalized by the lack of a dust filter. I chose this model because it is intended for cinema use unlike the HZ403.
Finally, a backlit remote control rather than a laser pointer would be appreciated.
