The material is very pleasant to the touch, flexible and designed for 2 headsets (I use 1 large gaming headset and 1 thinner pro headset).
It attaches to the underside of a desk with the headphones hanging down, so it shouldn't be placed just anywhere - to avoid bumping into it all the time
