2 years after its purchase, I have no regrets.
It hasn't deteriorated in any way.
Although the cable is not twisted, it is thick enough to be durable.
I was looking for a gamer headset to replace my Razer Carcharias from almost 10 years ago, which was absolutely comfortable.
I started by buying a Logitech G Pro X, but unfortunately it was too much of a headache for my taste (my head and jaw hurt after 30 minutes).
So I took the Audio Technica ATH-G1 because it was apparently less tight.
I can therefore compare these two headphones easily.
Audio technica ATH-G1 :
+ Good comfort, does not use too much
+ Cushions not too bad and changeable
+ Lightweight and comfortable headband
+ Good quality of the microphone according to my interlocutors (and many online tests)
+ Removable microphone
+ Wide frequency range (but do "normal" ears make a difference?!)
+/- Isolation with the outside quite important
- Rubber audio cable looks really cheap (slips, twists, annoying as hell), and not detachable!
- Audio cable control badly placed (drags on the desk when sitting), and turning it to minimum does not cut the sound enough
- audio cable partially exposed along the headband: it gives a kind, but it smells of future problems
- The price! No kidding, considering the somewhat average aspects described above, it hurts a bit...
In contrast, the Logitech G PRO X is better in almost every respect, except for the clamping force which makes it potentially painful. But it's cheaper, the foam pads are nicer, there are two types of pads in the box, a detachable braided audio cable, a well-placed sound wheel, a shorter audio cable for console controllers, and BLUE software via G Hub that gives you great control over the mic.
In short, if you can stand the pressure on your head, try the Logitech instead in my opinion.
Very good audio performance in games, music and movies.light headphones, not too useful.long cable (too bad it doesn't come off the headset : -1)
The headset is very nice and the sound is pretty good for this price range. My problem is that the mic doesn't work on my laptop. Probably a Windows 10 problem but the mic can't override the PC's built-in mic
The sound in the headset is very good (video conferencing, XBox).
Not tested with music.
No noise from the microphone (great for video conferencing with colleagues).
The connectors are very good (once connected, they "hold" and do not come loose every 5 minutes).
Use on XBox and PC without problems, for 4 hours in a row without problems.
The Audio-Technica ATH-G1 was one of the few headphones that met all my expectations and specific listening needs on paper. I needed a headset that would allow me to enjoy my long gaming sessions with voice communication but also listen to my music on the move and in everyday life, which few headphones are able to do.
The headset is generally well made, nicely finished, doesn't look cheap far from it, light (~260g), doesn't squeeze (or even too little for some depending on preferences), pleasant and airy earpads with good sound insulation, no pain, no unpleasant noise. Beware however of the visible cable (to the benefit of the lightness of the helmet) which will not suit everyone and requires some general attention. This is not a helmet designed to withstand the crash tests of the most violent players.
As for the audio, this is a quality worthy of the brand known for its professional equipment. It is not neutral, however, with a slight tendency to push the low frequencies (which I appreciate a lot) and a little more discreet means. The sound remains of great quality for its range and knows how to stand out by its fidelity without any distortion. The microphone is also impressive because it returns a very pleasant sound by respecting the tone of voice excellently. Beware, however, of rapid saturation when shouting, as there is no software to correct this. You'll have to move the microphone back a bit if you're the noisy type.
Perfect headphones for my strict expectations, excellent quality in general and perfectly suited to my tastes without the small negative points making me regret the perhaps somewhat high price.
(I've been using this headset for ~6 months intensively, at least 12 hours a day without exception, and nothing to report).
light, stable, comfortable, good assembly (no plastic squeaks), a very practical microphone and good sound...better than the PC350SE.
